Making a window bigger than the desktop?

Is there any way to force Vista to allow me to resize a window to any size I want to? In XP, I seem to recall being able to drag out a window's borders as far as I wanted (for instance, drag the edges so that it's the width of my desktop, then move it halfway off screen and continue to drag the edges so that the window's resolution is now greater than that of the desktop).

With Vista, though, the window just stops getting bigger and doesn't let me keep dragging the borders once I hit the width/length of my desktop resolution. How do I bypass this "feature"? Honestly, I don't even see the purpose of this (unless it's trying to make sure malware doesn't make spam windows so large you can't close them or something, but still... it should be optional).

I just tried this in XP/Pro SP2 and it doesn't work here either. Same thing on Windows 2000/Pro SP4.

Perhaps the PC you were able to do this on (if indeed you really were able to do so) had a graphics card/driver which allowed for extended desktops?

I'd like to do it too, for google maps. Make a huge high detail window and print it out shrunken to fit on one page.
