Making a "video" of computer display's output

I was hoping that the ATOT community could point me towards a tool (preferrably free) which would allow me to capture a video feed of my monitor's display. I would like to put together a simple training video to show how to use a piece of software and think that this would be more elegant than a million screen shots.

Thanks,

J

Years ago when I was training I successfully used a shareware called snagit to do screen and video caps. Not sure if it's still around, but it was a decent tool back then.

We've used a commercial product called Camtasia with success before. Of course, it does cost a bit more than 'free'.
