I am making a little ftp/webserver for school and everyday use for me and my family. I going to use sometype of linux, need some sugestions here. Another thing i need helps choosing is how much ram i would need for this. so all sugestions are welcome.

Specs, I already have all of this:
2.4b northwood
asus p4-533vx w/ integrated gfx
dvd-rom
psu/case
10gb laptop hdd

thanks

All it will do is server FTP (insecure) and do web serving?

I have a 486 doing something similar.

The box you have listed is overkill for what you need it for. 256M of RAM should be enough.

As for what OS to install... I would suggest Debian. Stable, supported and easy to use.

Well all the parts I have laying around so I figure why not?

As for linux I was thinking fedora core 5 or gentoo.

Fedora is more cutting edge. The tend to have a more frequent release schedule. If you don't need up-to-the-moment releases then go with something else.

The Debian community is great.

Check out DistroWatch for more info.
