5GB? 10GB? Looking for a size that'll let Windows breathe without taking up uneccesary space. This system has 1GB of RAM if that makes a diff (for virtual memory)

Really, it depends on what you're doing.

If you're planning to put Windows + programs & games, etc. all on the same partition, well, just start adding up how many games you have, & estimate 5-10 GBs for programs (unless you run some crazy audio/video/image editting programs).

I have 30 GBs for my current XP + appz partition, & well, it's too small actually :(

Next time i format, i'll be using a 50 GB one likely, since UT2k4 + maps takes up 15 GB right there, nevermind other games.

Make the partition 4.7GB base 10, which will wind up 4.36 base 2 - just like DVD, which is plenty for XP
Then make page file 2GB partition
Now you can easily backup O/S to DVD or format and reinstall without losing anything, like when you get a really
nasty virus

Mine is 40GB, and it's where I install programs/games/etc. Plenty of space, but I have "My Document" on a separate drive.

why dont you just use partion magic and make the partion bigger you can make partions with it and make them bigger, smaller, and delete em.

I use a 30 GB partition for OS, apps, games , etc. simply because I don't want to run out of space. My Documents is mapped to another drive. I then use backup software (Acronis True Image) to back up the 30GB partition (backs up only actual data which ends up being a few GBs since I currently have no games loaded) to another drive. Screw re-installing! Restoring drive partitions are the only way to go! (and don't try to tell me using MS Restore Point is the same...)

I'm cheap, & well, i didn't really know you could do all that with Partition Magic.
Plus, i tend to format every few months anyway, mostly since it just feels faster, even though i keep my system well-maintained anyway.
