So I feel that my 1.6 p4 system from 2001 is a little outdated.
so I feel the need to have more power and pull from my rig.

Not wanting to drop the 3k for a real good system,
I want to build my beast.

here is a list of parts Im looking at.
I have a sound system kb and mouse that I wanna keep.
other than that, here we go.

Do you see anything wrong with this picture?

Asus Premium:

AGP Slots None
PCI Express x16 2
PCI Express x1 1
PCI Slots 3
Other Slots 1 x PCI Express X4

-----------------------------------

All-In-Wonder X800 XT

Interface - AGP 4X/8X

There are photos of AGP and PCI-Express x16 cards on this page that should make the difference easy to see visually. The connectors aren't compatible (to gloss over a bunch of other aspects).

If it were me, I'd get two 1GB Crucial PC3200 modules like this one. In fact, that is what I use on my Asus A8N-E. If you're not looking for huge OC at supertight timings then this will save you some money that you can spend elsewhere.

Don't forget your WindowsXP Pro OEM license & CD.

Abit has a competitive mobo to check out too, lower price:

If you don't yet have a router, here's one I like: Netgear RP614 and here's lockdown instructions. Not exactly a computer part, but nice to have :)

I don't see a DVD/optical drive in the mix, but the NEC 3540 and BenQ 1640 are a couple of popular ones, I would get the BenQ myself.

Lastly, get a quality aftermarket power supply, don't use the freebie that comes with that case:
Antec TruePower 2.0 550W

You can use an Ati card in an nVidia motherboard. You just have to make sure if you get an AGP card you have an AGP slot, if you get a PCI Express card you have a PCI Express slot.

If you want to get the ASUS motherboard, which is a good motherboard, you'll want to get an nVidia video card though. That motherboard supports SLI technology, which only works with nVidia video cards. You can get an ATI if you want, and it'll work, but there's not reason for you to spend the extra money to get the SLI capable board because ATI doesn't support SLI. If you want to stick with the ATI board, I would suggest either of the following mobo's.

MSI Motherboard

DFI Motherboard

Either of these two would be great motherboards. They would also be good motherboards even if you decide to go with an nVidia card, but only if you get one and not two video cards. If you get two, you'll need the SLI board.
