Making a mirror of an existing disk.

KK

Lifer
Alright, here it goes. I got a new 100GB WD drive that I would like to stick in my computer as a back up to my 90GB C drive. Now my C drive is running from a Fasttrak Raid card, stripping 3 30GB drives. It shows up in Windows XP as my C drive. I now have this other drive attached to my onboard controller. How do I make a mirror of the C drive. I go into the disk management, both disks are showing as dynamic, When I right click on the new disk, which is showing unallocated, and go to new volume. It doesn't give my the option of making it a mirror. Can anyone point me in the right direction if this can be done.

Thanks,
KK

Well, as a dynamic disk, it wants you to make a volume. It doesn't give you the option of formating until you pick what type of volume you want. now it says you have the option of mirror set but it doesn't give you the radio button of using this volume as a mirror. Does that make any sense?

I'm taking it from what I seen so far that I can only mirror in Windows 2000 AS and not in XP. So now I need to copy everything onto this new 100GB drive manually so that if one of the drives in the stripe fails I can just boot from the 100GB byte drive. What's a good program for this type of work.

Thanks

NTI BackupNow! Deluxe

I've used it to copy drive contents from one HDD to another, works great. I've also used it to burn(built in burning app)CDRs as a backup image of my main WinXP drive. Took about 10cdr if I remember right. There was a little more on the drive than just WinXP😀

Thanks nate. I downloaded the program, so how does one use it. It wants to make an .nbf file. Can I get it just to make a mirror of the C drive without using an image file. That way I could boot from it if need be.

Thanks
KK
