Ive got Quake III Arena, its badly scratched and I'm not sure how much longer its going to last before it becomes to damaged to play. So, I need to make 1 legitimate backup for my own personal use but am not sure what software to use.
I tried CloneCD but didnt get a playable copy, I'm thinking because of copy protection on the disk.
My burner is a 16x Plextor IDE.

Any help you can give would really be appreciated.
Thanks
:)

Well I've made a few copies of my disk, all just using Nero, nothing special, and they all work just fine.

hmm...I've had no problems with CloneCD, BUT you might try setting the burn speed on your cdr-drive lower. I've had the same problem with diablo2. I have a 4x burner and I set the write speed to about 2x... try 8x or 4x.....

I don't think Q3 has any copy protection other than the CD-check in <1.2 PRs. Try copying with a different program, or different settings in CloneCD.

On another note, it may be worth it to invest in one of these to save yourself from this hassle. It pays for itself in 1-2 uses :D

Are you trying to make the copy, "on the fly"?

If so, then try the other way..........copy it to your hard drive first, then burn that.

I used Roxio to copy mine and it worked fine. The version of CloneCD that I use doesn't offer on the fly burning so you pretty much have to create an image. Which part is failing BTW, the reading or writing?

I think that may be it, I did make this copy on the fly.
I get through the entire process with what looks like a successful burn. But then I try and install from the new cd and I get a "insert cd" error.

I'll try some of you guys' suggestions.
Thanks

If you get a program called ClonyXL..it works along with clone cd. It will tell you what copy protection if any the disc has, It will then start up clone cd with the settings needed to make a working copy of the disc.Down oad Clony here
