Making a dvd without converting avi files

I want to burn some avi files on a dvd but I want it to have a menu and I don't want it to automatically play the next file after it's done playing one.

Do I need to use some specific software for this or is it possible to do it with any dvd creating software?

I tried Power Producer 4 but it converts the videos. It won't give me any other option.

thanx

Are you wanting to burn multiple divX/avi's onto a dvd to watch through a divX supporting dvd player? Only a DivX Ultra certified players will be able to play the menu you create.

See this info on DivX ultra certification

If your remote has a file menu button though on your divx/dvd player you should see the files listed in an explorer style window.

You can also use mpeg-1 video of 352 × 240 because that is a DVD supported format. An uncoverted avi file will not work to my knowledge. I wish it did, so I would not have to convert so many divx files to play on a typical standalone player.

Might as well just make a VCD then. OP, you're pretty much SOL wanting to make (standards compliant) DVDs using avi files without converting.

Well, by definition, a VCD must be written to a cdr which means there is a limit of 80 minutes. Plus, a few DVD players cannot play VCD's. If you burn the mpeg-1 to a dvdr using the standard DVD structure, you get over 7 hours + it plays on all standalone DVD players.

are you able to make Mini Blueray/HD-DVD disks like you did with DVDs (using CDs to hold DVD content) could use that to encode the files to SD H264 with a menu, dunno though if this is supported or not though

EDIT

did a little research on the subject, and yeah its in the spec. so if you can get a program to author it (not sure if there are cheap non pro programs avail yet) you can use h264 videos with a menu using HDdvd or Bluray formats on a DVD. its called 3x DVD

For speed I use WinAVI it will convert in 20 minutes a 2 hour movie and can also create menus although the menu creation is not very good. I use it mainly to convert avi to vob and then use another software like Sony DVD architect to create the menus.

I use iPod Video Converter it converts all popular video formats to iPod video. You can enjoy DVD/VCD and AVI, MPEG, WMV, RM, RMVB, DivX, ASF, VOB video files in your iPod.

or I use CinemaForge it convert Ipod (MP4), Flash (SWF), Flash (FLV), Motion Pictures Group (MPEG), Audio Video Interleaved (AVI), Window Media Video (WMV), Real Video (RM), QuickTime (MOV), Advanced Streaming Format (ASF), and JPEG (thumbnails). Easy to use Video downloading from popular video sites.
