making a cheap file server/ftp server

im making a server/ftp. i fotn really have a buget just cheap as posible basicly. here what im thinking. waht do you think? thanks for looking

here is waht i am salvaging for my old comp.

2.4 northwood
512 pc 2100
cd-rw
floppy


what i need

case- antec slk3700
psu- in case
mobo-Chaintech spt800
HDD-seagate 250gb
gpu-mx4000

thanks. there will be no gaming waht so ever. it will be strictly server/ftp.

that would be more than enough. you could even use it for a small bf2 practice server if you have the bandwidth, should handle 20+peeps(if you have the bandwidth)

That graphics card is overkill for the purpose. True, you can't really get a new card for much less than 30 or so, given the intrisic costs of shoving a PCB in a box and shipping it from China; but you would do just fine with anything that isn't ISA. If you don't mind fleabaying, FS/FT or have a helpful friend with an old parts stash, you could save the thirty bucks.

I don't know much about the motherboard, offhand, but it will probably answer the purpose, and the price is right.

i have used the old 4MB trident ones and noticed nothing when switching to a apg gfmx440....so i guess ymmv

It also depends on what resolution you want to output to.. I output to 16X10 now.. Soon to be... Insane.. ;)

my servers are usually only 640x480 or 800x600...so i guess that is why the 4MB cards work fine for me...
