If you're going to be using Windows ME or 98, they won't support 512MBs, however Windows 2000 will. Go for Crucial CAS2 RAM

Monitor: Sony G400 19" Flat Screen 410 40
Good choice. Another possibility is the Samsung 900NF.

Video Card: GeForce 2 Ultra 238 3 (not sure on this one)
Great card. Only other choice is the GeForce3, but it is too expensive to be worth it now.

Hard Drives: 2 45GB 75XGP IBM Deskstars (ATA100, 7200RPM) 300 5.95(heard bad things about those though.. should I go for 60XGPs)
Go with the newer 60GXP Deskstars as they are better and fixed a few problems of the 75GXPs AFAIK.

Case: Enlight 7237 w/300 watt power supply 50 15
Make sure you get an AMD approved power supply with that case.

CDROM: Kenwood 72x (not sure on this one)
Have you considered a DVD player?

Network: 3com 10/100
Do you need an expensive NIC and will you use the capabilities of this card? Most likely, your answer is not and therefore go for a cheaper $20 solution from a company like Linksys.

well, since you're doing RAID i definately applaud you there...

as for memory don't skimp out, go with either crucual or mushkin if you can afford it

never heard anything bad about those HDs myself... if you have links, i'd definately like to read up on that

what are you doing for a sound card/speakers? i'm interested, since i've been reading about the problems with via chipsets and the sb live! you'd have to look for some alternative (since the sb live is a pretty universal reccomendation these days although i doubt anyone but 2% of users these days use them to their full potential)

good call... I'd definately reccomend a TOSHIBA although some people dont like tray loaders...

i happen to love them. a toshiba 12x DVD-ROM should run you no more than $70 shipped

I would suggest Toshiba or Pioneer if you do indeed want to go the DVD route. Which to get? Do a search and read people that love Toshiba and hate Pioneer and then read posts that love Pioneer and hate Toshiba, then flip a coin. IMHO, both are great drives and good for what most people will use them for.

You might want to look into a Plextor 12/10/36 (I think those are the numbers, but 12/10 is for sure) or the 16/10/40. Both of these drives have BurnProof and are some of the best if you want to put done a little more money.

I'm not sure what that would cost you, but at least take a look at the Lite-On 12x10x32 CDRW with BURNPROOF. Newegg.com (a reseller you should definately look into. Definately one of the favorites of the anandtech hotdeals forums) sells it for $100 + $10 shipping. Look for reviews if you wish. This drive is as good as the plextor that yiwonder mentioned, but for $50 less.

Well, when picking a sound card right now, you have to ask one important thing:

Do you want 3d sound? (eax, a3d, etc)

if so, you'll need to pay a premium for the sound card, and with the motherboard you've selected, you may want to avoid the SoundBlaster Live! line of cards. That would leave that new Hercules Gamer card and any Aureal3d cards.

If not, pick up a Creative SoundBlaster AWE64 cheap.
