Leinart-
I think the "no arm strength" is BS. He's been a fantastic quarterback in an NFL style offense at USC, how about that final ND play or nearly carrying a team to a threepeat (and by the way he was great up until the end of rose bowl). And now he finds himself in an even better position at Arizona under the teaching of Kurt Warner and an explosive array of offensive weapons available to him. I predict Leinart to be a superb NFL quarterback in 2 or 3 years.

3 peate.. when are you stupid ass fanboys gonna get this through your heads...

USC 1 LSU 2 Texas 3 how the FVCK does that = 3?

guess thats the math they teach out there in California...

stupid ass hippies.

Cutler will be horrid. He won 11 games in college. Don't give me the 'oooh but his team was crappy' if he's so good why didn't he raise the level of the team? Best case scenario he's the next jake plummer. Young will be a poor man's vick. Leinert will be good, but leave the NFL in less than a decade, there's been a worry among NFL teams that he was going to go to a screen career after just a few years in the NFL....his agents are steering him that way too...especially after he dropped in the draft

You're an idiot. You apparently missed the fact that Cutler was SEC player of the year for two straight years.

OR

Cutler, the all-time leader in virtually every Vanderbilt passing and total offense category, also was named First Team All-SEC quarterback by both the coaches and media.
OR

Cutler came into his own last season, leading the SEC in total offense, passing yards, touchdown passes and completions.

OR

Cutler became the first collegiate player named to the Senior Bowl, the most important postseason competition for NFL scouts and executives.

OR

Cutler ended the season with a superb four-game stretch against South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee, averaging 352 passing yards while throwing for 13 touchdowns.

Sorry dude, but Cutler was a terrific QB for Vandy. He DID improve his team. While this does not reflect on how good he will be as an NFL player - he was an awesome college QB.

Are you insane? Jay Cutler won't play a down in his first couple of years, Jake Plummer is in Denver, going to Pro Bowls and winning. Your question is over the next three years...it's gotta be Matt Leinart. He's playing with two pro bowl recievers and a pro bowl running back, with a revamped offensive line. That offense is going to be ridiculous next year.

As I said in my prior post, youd don't know that. Lots of things can happen where Cutler gets to play. He could also be traded right away and play for anther team (just another scenerio I didn't already list)

Seems silly to me to make a prediction based on a Pro Bowler getting injured or getting traded when the team that drafted you traded up to get you...Leinart is the obvious choice, I don't see how anyone can think Leinart won't be the most productive in his first three years.

Leinart, Leinart, Leinart. Not only is he the most talented & most experienced, he has by FAR the best supporting offense. Leinart, edge, boldin, and fitzgerald is just nasty.

Vince Young is so overrated. He's a slower Michael Vick. Sure, he's taller, but big deal. He'll never be a great passing QB.

OH MY GOD!!!

Aren't you the one always going on about how great Vick is?????

I think Michael Vick has the ability to develop into a great quarterback, yes. In addition to being far faster than Young (which is what makes him so dangerous), he also throws the ball very hard, and with near-perfect mechanics. Get him someone other than Alge Crumpler to throw to, and yes, I do think Vick can still develop into a great QB.

Young, on the otherhand, is slower, stupider, and mechanically worse. The ONLY advantage is his height.

Actually Vick has horrible foot mechanics (thats why Falcons brought in Musgrave), he has a great cannon arm though (strongest in NFL, flick of the wrist & it flies). I think Vick should improve this upcoming year in the passing game but next year is the year I think he breaks out.

I hope it isnt Leinert, only because the Lions could have picked him and didnt. God knows after a 50 year drought, we could use a good QB.

I'm talking his arm mechanics. He throws the "prettiest" ball in the NFL, and really with how strong his arm is, he doesn't HAVE to have perfect foot mechanics, although it certainly would help.

A lot of people forget how young he is, too. Vick may have been in the NFL for awhile, but he is only 6 months older than Eli Manning. I'll admit (because I'm sure the Kevs of the world, who are in for a VERY disappointing season by the way) I was wrong in my assessment that last year would be his breakout year, but I still believe he will have one, be it this year or next year.

Cutler is a crybaby. During the LSU game he got sacked 6 times and started crying on the sideline. There is no crying in football!!!!

Aaron Rodgers will be very good.

Leinart will be a very good NFL QB.

Young will ultimately wash out due to his lack of intelligence

Cutler is overrated. Too early to tell how hard he'll flop.

Smith is a question mark.

hmmm ok, i know it's hard to compare because vick has already been in the league, but don't you think you are being too harsh on vince? let's get these stats in the clear, and compare the stats from both michael vick's best stats in college and vince young's last year in college. basically, i took the better of the two stats from vick's 1999 and 2000 seasons (he was injured in 2000, but ran for more yards), and compared it with vince young's 2005 season

total passing yards:

vick - 1840 yds, young - 3036 yds

completion percentage:

vick - 59%, young - 65%

passing TDs

vick - 8 TDs, young - 26 TDs

interceptions

vick - 6 INTs, young - 10 INTs

rushing yards

vick - 617 yds, young - 1050 yds

average yards per rush

vick - 5.9 yd/rush, young - 6.8 yd/rush

rushing touchdowns

vick - 8 TDs, young - 12 TDs

ok, i am no football scout, but i think vince young has just as much potential as michael vick.

I've compared the numbers before, but A) Vick left college after only two years, Young played three, who is to say what Vick would have done in a junior season and B) Both of them were great COLLEGE quarterbacks, but we all know that doesn't have to translate to the NFL. Considering that Young is dumb as a brick and throws half retarded, I am rather confident that he will bomb at the NFL level.

well, i guess time will tell

i'm a big michael vick fan as well as vince young fan, so i'm wishing for both their successes. i know drafting young was a huuuuuge gamble, but there is a chance the payoff will be big.

here's initial thoughts after first workout with team:
"I thought he did a nice job with everything from the huddle, to breaking the huddle, to getting under center, the cadences, the snap counts and the concepts we have him," Fisher said. As for throwing the ball, Young impressed the coaches. "This morning we threw one-on-one, and he completed four consecutive deep balls to receivers he'd never thrown to before," Fisher said. "That's a good sign because he's able to adjust and able to adjust real easily." Young's new teammates, many of whom had only seen him perform on television before Friday, were already impressed. "The ball was right there, and that's all a receiver can ask for," said receiver Jonathan Orr, a sixth-round pick from Washington. "I was impressed like everybody else."

I'm going to go with Vince Young. The guy is tough and accurate and will make things happen with his feet when all else fails.

Leinart = Todd Marinovich. Have you guys actually watched USC play? All of his "great" passes occur after about 7 secs in the pocket. The guy played great in college, don't get me wrong, but he is not going to make it in the NFL IMO. He has good touch, but his decision making is a little slow and he floats his passes too much.

Young was also in that spread offense at Texas, he usually had only 1 or 2 reads. Defenses didn't really shift. Young has all the physical attributes but he needs to pick it up in the mental game, great potential... "Potential is nothing, execution is everything." -someone.

actually, being a falcons fan i think young will be better than vick.

leinert is as far as he's going to go. he's busy being hollywood right now, and i don't see him learning anything new in the nfl and hitting that next level.

vick's days are numbered, dj shockley is town now.

in the 2-3 year stretch, leinart. But mostly because of his supporting cast. I dont think he has all the parts to be a great NFL QB. I'm a college football nut and watched alot of both young and leinart(vandy is never on tv around here, or i would ahve seen more of him) Leinart floats too many passes. Watching the games he trows the balls high and drops them down from above onto the reciever more often than not. He doesnt have a whole lot of 'zip' when he needs to thread the ball in tight. And those floaters will get picked alot more in the NFL from DBs who know how to possition themselves.

In the long run, 5 years+, I'm going to have to go with Young. He has all the physical tools, and contrary to the wonderlic test(which really is about worthless for predicting what will happen, ryan leaf scored more than 10 points higher than steeve young) he does run games well. He needs to improve reading NFL defenses, but that goes for every QB making the jump. The shotgun vs center debate is over rated. Rothlisburger took most of his snaps from the shotgun in college too. And he has those intangibles that make the the great leaders. He elevates the players around him and takes the team onto his back when needed, look at the USC and Ohio State games.

I'm not sold on Cutler. He may be a decent QB, but I just dont see him making a probowl. I just dont see a guy who loses to Middle Tennessee State making it.

I will wager than on none of his great passes has Matt held the ball for 7 seconds, not even 4 or 5 secs. No scouts have questioned his decision making ability because his track record speaks for itself. Floats passes...I agree with you there.

I've watched basicaly every game that Leinart has played the past 3 seasons. All the things scouts said about Leinart, many of the same things were said about Palmer (some scouts said far worse about Plamer).

There is little or no arm strength problem...watch the 2005 orange bowl again, if you can. Leinart threw a few very nice 50 yard strikes. And if you tally up arm strength both among up top NFL prospects and even top NFL QB's...there aren't many that can accurately throw further than 60-65 yards from where they are standing. Leinart can certainly do that.

Leinart focused more, I think on throwing an easily catchable ball where ever possible. He has can zip the ball on skinny posts and deep ins/out when and where necessary.

I do agree that Matt does float some passes that he should zip (Rose Bowl INT was a perfect example)...but that just a little QB coaching and mental preparation.

What is most important he that he is generally very accurate and he makes excellent reads even if he doesn't always make the perfect throw.

CUTLER

They lost to Middle Tennessee State on a blocked FG, doesn't really have much to do with it. Considering he played for the doormat of the best football conference in the country and still put up 3000 yards says a lot about his talent when playing with a crack squad of footballers against the future of the NFL.
