hey bobsnob,

that's pretty cool how u came up with that. doesn't look too bad either. i decided to go with the svc gc68 however, since it takes an 80 mm fan, and fits on basically any board that'll take a standard 60 mm heat sink.

this is definately ingenious, and allows u more options for which heat sink to use. i'm sure there's some ppl that can make some good use from ur info. :)

<< What is this svc etc? >>

the svc gc68 is the glacial cooler 68 by svc. it's a heat sink that takes an 80 mm fan, but fits on basicall any standard motherboard. seems like a decent solution for anybody that can't use the alpha 8045. it costs only like $13 too.

Just wanted to add a congrats to Bobsnob. I would try this if I could mount it to my SK6. Looks like a nice solution to the 80mm fan conversion dilema. From what I have read it usually doesnt work too well when using the funnel adapter things. The pressure produced is too much for the 80mm fan.

Nice work.

looks simple and effective! nice work. Would this also work on the circular heatsinks like the volcano?

It's certainly ingenious, however you seem to be blocking the outer edges of the fan during a great deal of its rotation. The outer edges are where most of the cfm is generated.

From the article, as long as U hv a 60 X 60 mm "fan frame"...u will be able to mount the 80 mm fan on it. The volcano is no prob.

But because the 60mm "frame" will block some CFM off the 80 mm fan, the actually cooling prowess may drop.
