Make Microphone Louder

Is there any way to make my microphone pick up my voice louder. I already have it on the loudest setting but it still too quiet. I know its not a problem with my mic because I tested two different mics.
 
When I go into volume control > options the advanced controls option is grayed and I cant click it.
 
That is also done by putting the mic closer to your lips - like 1 inch away. Is this a standard "computer" mic? Impedance mismatches can impact volume otherwise.
