If laptop is on wifi but I plug in an ethernet cable can I make windows automatically switch to ethernet everytime without turning off antenna? Can windows do such a thing? I thought "connect to a more preferred network" would do it but it seems not..

-windows 7/vista laptop
-If this is obvious I apologize, didn't get any useful google results

Actually the right more neutral solution for this is adjusting the metrics.

Metrics - http://www.ezlan.net/metrics.html

In addition to Jack's comment - If you're only dealing with 1 LAN and 1 WLAN card, then there is no need to adjust the Metrics. Windows automatically assigns a Metric of 10 to LAN and 25 to WLAN.

Running "route print" from the cmd prompt will show your Routing Table and what the metric is that's assigned to each route.

I'm pretty sure it depends on the OS and service pack level. Since XP this shouldn't be a problem and the LAN interface will be preferred with a lower metric.
