Make joke about Africans get booted from Olympics,

It is not a joke, it is an racist comment. It was meant to be a jab at Africans.

How? The bugs are from Africa, Africans are also from Africa they are facts and not racist. I know most people think saying African, black, or talking to a black person is racist. But it is not.

Considering the venue, she should have known better. While athletes have done some very stupid things, to make a tweet like this, and this is the Olympics, while her punishment may be excessive, you can't say stuff like this and you reffering to the Olympic athletes.

yup.

and like I mentioned earlier, the EU has a very large, very vivid anti-racism campaign directed at athletes and sports fans that has been saturating their events for over a year now.

It's possible she was just being stupid and not quite thinking through her comments...but it should be no surprise that this is the response.

Instead of spewing nothing why don't you explain your antithesis to me?

I get to combine two threads here. Courtesy of Wikipedia...

Xenos - Greek word meaning stranger or foreigner.

Phobia - From the Greek Phóbos, meaning fear, or morbid fear.

So... that gives us morbid fear of foreigners, right? This would be a xenophobic tweet...

"Being around all these Africans will give us all West Nile virus"

Should she have known better? sure.

But was it something racist? or even bad enough to be booted from the Olympics? HELL NO.

Thing is her joke really was not funny and instead uncomfortable. It was a way of discreetly talking about a topic that she knows is not socially acceptable. Ever made fun of strangers simply because they are not part of your group? I swear... ATOT needs some out doors time.

I agree it wasn't the most funny joke, but it really had little to do with Africans. I actually take more as an insult to the Greeks not properly handling their mosquito problem. It was a throw away comment only a fool would give any kind of meaning to.

I will disagree. Also, called yourself a fool since you assigned it meaning. Yeah, I can see how this may be just a stupid thing she randomly said if she was nervously talking just to fill a void in conversation. She specifically pulled out a phone to make a dumb statement like this? What's her tweet history like?

it's not racist at all, and even if it really was slightly racist booting someone from the team for it is too much, just reprehend her and let her take the heat from the press.

Not really. I assigned it meaning under the microanalysis of this thread. If she said that to me in person, I would have given a polite chuckle, and not given it a bit of extra thought.

It's the freaking Olympics. Her "statement" kind of violates the whole intent of bringing all the world's people together to compete in harmony.

As a representative of her country, really? When you aspire to higher standards, you have to live up to it. She was not smart enough to figure it out.

And not a single spelling mistake, what's gotten into you?

LOL

pretty much it. I wouldn't have given it a 2nd thought. the only reason its a issue now is she has been kicked off the team. if they would have punished her and apologized it would have been forgotten like the spanish mens team doing the eye slant t hing years ago.

edit: i think the right punishment would be for her to spend the evening with me in bed.
