Except that there were no Americans, African or otherwise involved in this. In fact the continent of Africa has Black, Semitic, and Caucasian people living on it therefore the only racism I detect is the leap to assume that she naturally meant the black inhabitants with the "joke".

No the proper thing to assume is White people are so scared of African Americans (since they equate African American = Dark skinned person)

And White people are so scared of upsetting dark skinned people that they over react by a magnitude of 100xx

She was making a Joke regarding people from a different country, not a specific skin color.

But the Extreme fear of Dark Skinned people by white folks leads them to all kinds of irrational knee jerk reactions. This is primarily an issue with privileged white people.

If the joke was demeaning in some way I could understand the problem. Funny or not I don't find where it is tasteless. The only thing it tries to convey is that there is that there has been a large influx of Africans into Europe. Is this a lie?

This....I really don't see how it could be taken as an insult, derogatory comment, or really anything bad...certainly not racist.

rac·ism
noun
1.
a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2.
a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3.
hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

African isn't a fucking race of people, so it can't be racism. Pretty sure Mosquitoes aren't a race of anything either. So no racism found there. Way overblown reaction, stupid political correctness.

Around my house, they race to eat me alive.

It's fucking pathetic that the fact that the word "Africans" was in the joke automatically makes it a racist joke.

It's pretty harsh to kick her off the Olympic Team for that comment. Everyone overreacts about everything nowadays.

Granted she should know not to make a comment like that but it's still too harsh.

People need to get thicker skin.

It is not a joke, it is an racist comment. It was meant to be a jab at Africans.

How so? By referring that the mosquitoes and Africans are both from Africa?

Also why does she say Greece? Are the trials in Greece before they move to London?

I believe she was referring to the African immigrants in Greece. Like making fun of Asians and driving or Mexicans and beans in the US.

Considering the venue, she should have known better. While athletes have done some very stupid things, to make a tweet like this, and this is the Olympics, while her punishment may be excessive, you can't say stuff like this and you reffering to the Olympic athletes.

I agree, I am sure the punishment is devastating to her but in this day and age, she should have known better.
