I am in a laboratory that has a few ethernet ports in the walls (these are on the same network). I need more ports so I bought a router. The problem is that I have a sho server for printing and file sharing. I want computers connected via the router and also directly into the wall to have access to this server. How should I set this up so that it works?

Do you mean a SOHO server? If not, what?

On some routers you'd run a cable from the uplink port to a wall port. On others you can use any port to do this.

Sometimes you need a crossover cable, or to press a crossover button on the router.

Sorry I did mean a SOHO server. I have a linksys wireless N router (WRT150N). I'm not sure what an uplink port is or what you mean by a crossover cable but is that supported on this router? I heard something about port tunneling. Would that work here? Also, is there a way to just make the router not give out ip addresses so it forces the school router to do it? (I was able to do that at home where I have both a firewall router that has a wireless router plugged in.)

Just as an update, there is software that comes with the program that allows you to sync the printer and disk drive. I cannot connect to the soho server that is plugged directly into the wall from a computer plugged into the router but if I type in the ip address of the router from that computer, it loads to web page for the server. So I have a connection to that ip address just not the way that the software wants it i guess. Unfortunately, the software is required for setting up the drive and printer (at least I think it is).
