Please don't be an idiot. I am so much more elite than the elitist left it isn't even funny. Show me one person who says what I say anywhere because I am just about the only person I have ever seen who knows nothing.

Haha! I have a new sig.

When it comes to politics: Democrats are naive, Republicans are incompetent, and moderate independents are too moderate to form a coherent platform.

So we're basically stuck until another decent candidate (for any station) from one of the two big parties slips through the bureaucratic cracks, or the Libertarian party pulls its head out of its ass and actually gets some non-morons on the ticket.

Sweet so the people who were polled think our politicians are idiots and they don't trust them. So next election they're not going to do any party line voting right? No picking candidate A because he has an R next to his name or no voting for candidate B because he wears blue? No they will still vote on party lines, they will vote for the bloods because they don't want crips in and vice versa.

Frankly I don't blame them. Obama looked all nice and shiny and he's certainly proved otherwise.

Barring the obvious winner, you're almost better off picking at random.

If Mursillis' analogy was referring to political parties, I agree. I think his dog represented "government," or perhaps more narrowly "the federal government," however. It's the standard complaint, that government is [ incompetent | evil | whatever ], yet people continue to turn to it for solutions.

You read it correctly, and just because the complaint is 'standard' doesn't mean it's not also valid. As for making the best of the situation, since when has growing gov't "made the best of the situation"? Power always ends up being abused, and the greater the power, the greater the abuse.

The public is finally started to see through the socialist veil. Now the key is for us to make sure the public doesn't get bamboozled by the media into focusing their attention elsewhere between now and November. We need to keep this sentiment focused so those in DC are held to account in November.

And that didn't happen in 2006?

The context of my comment was pointing out your analogy was bad. We are stuck in the kennel with the dog.

As for making the best of the situation, since when has growing gov't "made the best of the situation"? Power always ends up being abused, and the greater the power, the greater the abuse.
The fundamental problem is the dogma that government is always bad. It isn't. It's a myth, a propaganda point used to sell an agenda. Government can be a reasonable solution to many problems, even a good solution to some problems.

Government is often bad to be sure. It can be big and slow and inefficient, it's managed and run by fallible people, and it's led by people who are often power hungry and corrupt, more interested in their personal enrichment than in serving their constituents. Unfortunately, the exact same issues affect the private sector. Some companies are good, some are bad. Most are a mixed bag of good and bad depending on the role and the specific leaders in any given area ... just like government.

What's worse, private companies exist to make a profit. This means they are at least somewhat motivated to exploit their customers to maximize profits. This can be mitigated by many factors -- including government regulation -- but that motive is always in play to some extent. It's just a question of where each company draws its lines.

In contrast, government is at least nominally motivated to serve its customers since its leaders work for us (or so the theory goes). We can all point to many examples where it doesn't work that way in practice ... just as we can all point to examples of businesses who've abused customers and cheated share holders. Neither type of organization is all good or all bad.

My point? You can't have an intelligent discussion with someone who thinks government is the solution to every problem ... or with someone who thinks one should never turn to government for anything. Government is a vital part of civilized society. If we're going to have productive debate, we need to look at the right balance between the government, the private sector, and taking care of one's self on a case by case basis. There are no one size fits all answers.

Has a majority of Americans ever trusted Washington at any time in American history?

Two parties, both pretend to be different while representing the same folks at the top and end up doing the same things. Is it really a surprise that less and less people trust the cronies in Washington ?

The man who is smart enough to know he knows nothing continuously supports politicians who are dumb enough to know they know everything. Perfect irony.

Moonbeam, there was a time when you died only to be born again. Probably the greatest and yet most painful thing you've ever done, no? I think it's time you do it again.

The majority of respondents probably don't trust their own brother either. What's your point?
Reading the article should have led you to a conclusion. You may feel free to share it with us after you've read it.

I shouldn't have to tell you this. This forum is Politics and News.

Why shouod I bother with reading an article when I know there are 2 choices. Vote for the GOP and their corporate freindly friends or vote for the Dems and their labor friendly friends??

I'll stay in the labor camp, the corporate freindly have pretty much had their way for the last 30 years. I say it's time to give someone else a chance to screw things up.
