Here are my current specs prior to me trying to upgrade, before i get into anything.

Athlon 64 3400+
Asus K8N-E Deluxe
512 Geil PC3200
XFX GF 6800
Soundblaster Audigy Gamer
2 WD Special Edition 80 gig hd's

I just built that setup a little over 2 weeks ago, and this week I ordered more parts to upgrade with. I ordered a second stick of RAM, a new antec true 430 watt psu, and a pioneer 16x dvd rw... after i put all the new components in my system, everything booted fine... but i went to load cpu-z and i got all of these weird looking blocks on the screen scattered everywhere and the programs wouldnt load, then i restarted and windows itself wouldnt load, so i removed the new stick of ram figuring that was the problem and everything appeared to be fine... so i went to play UT2004 and i got the same problem, ut froze, i got a bunch of blocks on the screen, and it crashed... So after this i figured it may be the new psu, so i switched back to the old raidmax 420w psu that came with the case, and initially everything appeared to be fine, so i shut down and restarted a few times, and on about the 3rd time i got the weird lines and blocks everywhere on the screen... now im stumped... the ram i have in there was working fine before i tried to upgrade, as was the mobo and video card... what could be causing this? windows is loading fine but i get the visual corruption after i try to load a few programs... i really need help, i have no idea what else i should do, or what i should try to rma...

What video card do you have? SP2 is supposed to have some problems with the higher end video cards. Try booting up your computer in any stable way possible, and then uninstall SP2 and then see how everything works.

yeah, the 6800 can pass for a high end card :D just go to add or remove programs via control panel and get rid of that stupid SP2. I recommend holding off on installing it for a few months. If you already have a third party firewall running, you really don't need SP2, but that's a whole different issue.

Links? I haven't heard of any issues with SP2 and high-end video cards.

Before you uninstall SP2 (which I can't believe is causing this), can you check your temperatures?

Well, I'm not sure exactly where I read it (either on Anandtech or Cnet), but I remember SP2 messing with some drivers and such. Probably only an isolated incident, but it is a possibility...

Litchfield285, Can you give the exact system specs? That would greatly help figuring out the problem.

Hmm, cooling seems plenty enough. If you can, try out your video card on another system. If not, then, first back up all of your important files, then uninstall SP2. If it still doesn't work, then insert your XP Pro CD and select Upgrade. All of the windows components will be reinstalled, but, if it loads fine, all of your files will be still there. If there was an error during the Upgrade, then I'd suggest getting new ideas from some of the more experienced posters on this site...
