This is why no trained monkey will ever touch one of my cars.

Get some Manimal.

untrained primates only? that seems dangerous.

OP, my rage would go beyond the clutch. if it's been roasted, they've probably also subjected the rest of your drivetrain to a lifetime of shock and vibration via frequent clutch sidestepping.

i'd sue them for the value of the fucking car.

Damn thats crazy, they are so dumb they knew they were getting recorded but kept doing it, the first guy who was driving the car knew it and was chill.

IIRC, somewhere in the video the passenger says something about the cameras and the driver says something like "I checked the truck, there's no computer." implying nothing to record with. But the car's owner put in a false wall in the truck so no one could see the computer or wires, very nice setup.

I am going to have nightmares about sidestepping now.

I am very curious on how they play it tomorrow.

Every place where I've had maintenance done (which is not many, as I do most myself), has always recorded the mileage on the odometer before ever starting any work on it whatsoever.

That should be listed on the paperwork somewhere, I would hope. If so, and you can prove there is an extra 100+ miles on the car, I would think it would be open and shut...

Owner called me today with tail between his legs. I think I am going to get the clutch replaced by them I think. I may be getting a credit to use for future service as well he mentioned.

Keep you guys posted.

honestly would you want them touching your car again? if proven to not be trustworthy at all i would take it to another more reputable mechanic and have them do it. and then make the shop pay for it. really teach them that cusomer cars are not there weekend rides. i own a shop myself and customer car almost never get driven off property unless they absolutely have to i have my own car for driving and dont use customer cars as my own. wicked pet peeve to see people abusing a customer car like that

Good point, why take a chance that someone at that shop (who probably got a new one from his boss) would want payback by say, dropping a few rock shrimp down your defroster intake, screw that, take it to a Porsche dealer and let them pay stealership labor rates..

The owner has been very stand up. I did consider taking it to the dealer and have them do it but the shop has offered me an additional credit towards future repairs after the clutch and flywheel.

they are doing it same day and I may watch them do it so I can inspect the intermediate shaft and replace if needed.

update: I asked them to do the RMS while they are there and they said yes!

I think they are doing a great job then. They had one bad apple. Question in case I missed it... Did they fire his ass?
