At first I thought the original post was just going to be a "stay a while and listen" gag.

Wait, Diablo has a plot?

I know you're joking but I actually found two good articles and a video about the plot. I only played a little of the first Diablo and mainly just rembered the village music. The second one I played all the way through about a decade ago and I hardly remember anything about the story. Links (recommened to view in order) are below:

Story was really rather light in both Diablo 1-2. I mean there was a story of sorts. "save Cain, investigate the church, descend into the depths. Kill Big D." And D2 was a small amount more than that. It really isn't about the story. it is about the adventure and the loot and leveling up and killing baddies.

All IMHO.

doesn't mean it isn't fun. Just it isn't Shakespeare.

this.

which is the same with any MMO or just about any game known for good-great Co-OP play. Story is very ancillary, and why shouldn't it be?

The only exception to this that I have run across is ToR. Very good story...(but actually less-engaging play, imo. :\)

I agree completely. After reading the articles I just thought it was nice to have the background information. I'm still not interested in the story though.

lol i bet you its shopped.

IIRC they were also toying around internally with a console version, yes.

It may be shopped, but they're not just toying with the idea. They are working on it with a separate team and have said so publicly.

Consolized.
Welcome to the new Blizzard.

I just realized a new detriment to the game (even in single player) being always online. You are now restricted in what your character name is to those that are not already taken. So as more users get online and playing, simple names will no longer be available. If I am playing single player, I don't want my character name to be tHe_sPYder49873. I want it to be The Spyder with caps in all the right places and no funky numbers because some other looser got there first. It's SINGLE PLAYER for gods sake.

Character names are not unique. You can name your character whatever you want, regardless of whether or not somebody already chose that name. You are identified by your battletag to other players online.

Really? I was just watching a youtube video. The player wanted to name their character something and the program told them it was invalid and they had to add characters to the tail ending just to become valid.

Yeah the Battle tag has to be different, but inside the game you can name your characters anything you like.
Which was smart.

Even if they were, I never played Diablo to be mystified by the plot. Both games to date have consisted of: "Diablo bad, he that way, you badass motherfucker, go kill Diablo".

lol, that was an excellent description of the Diablo "lore". Does anyone really care?

Could probably add:
"we need a sequel to diablo 2. Someone else is now Diablo, somehow. Kill him etc"

Gamespot has a "Good" 7 minute video that wraps up Diablo 1 and 2 an still has time to introduce Diablo 3. Which really says it all about the "Plot". Everything you need to know (including all of the cut scenes from both games) in 7 minutes... :p

was hoping that Cain would turn out to be Belial

Leah being Diablo wasn't a surprise and I hope she doesn't magically return
