Can someone explain how someone could get into your XP from this hole? I dont quite get the concept of this. I don't use XP btw, just wondering how this actually effects my dad who does.

<< The only security hole in WindowsXP is the user who installs it. The ultimate security patch is to format and reinstall Win2k. >>

*rolls eyes* Thanks for that great contribution!

Thanks for the heads up ScoobMaster.

It's pretty simple. You can just write a quick script that hax0r's your outgoing TCP/HTTP/XL packets and reroutes them to a domain of your choice. Then you reverse compile that person's scripting host to accept incoming net packets that piggy back on the kernel64.dll procedures as they are called on the host computer.

XP sucks ALOT.

when a service pack or 2 come out, XP should be better... but right now it's a POS... I heard about this a while back from somewhere actually....

For some people it works great; for me it was a piece of crap and I won't touch it again until I see a service pack.

thankfully i don't know nor have the xp thing for Win98.

but this was a good reminder to update Windows. i'm trying to download some critical updates right now but the server is very slow. wait, it's not slow, it's flat out stopped. argh.

Now the FBI is in on this. Apparently the patch doesn't do enough, they stress all users to DISABLE the universal plug and play. This must be real bad for the feds to get in on this.
