ok, i had some major hardware failure on my computer a few weeks ago. I ended up spending cash, and here is what i have now:

Shuttle AK39N motherboard
Athalon XP 1800+
512 PC2700 Kingston RAM
WD 120GB 7200 RPM 8 MB Cache HD
Optorite/AccessTek 52X Burner
64MB GeForce 3 Ti200
Onboard NIC/Sound

I installed XP, and now i get a blue screen at least twice a day. I have updated all the drivers, I have flashed the BIOS, and I still get the error. I have disabled the onboard sound, and it still crashed, I disabled the onboard nic and it still crashes. I used the default video card drivers and it crashes.

The error that pops up in the blue screen is:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and it also mentions AFD.sys

Anyone have any ideas, I am at a complete loss. :frown:

hi,
do you get any messages in event viewer that indicate problems?
also, try downloading memtest and checking your ram
link
hope this helps.
good luck

Well, what I did after testing the memory was throw all the piece in and old motherboard, and it has worked just fine. So as far as I can tell, either

1. The ram is incompatible. Which is suprising to me, because everything I could see on the motherboard specs said it was, and the Ram said it was so, that leaves me confused.
2. One of the ram sockets could be screwed. Is that possible?

Thanks for the help. I guess I just need to find out which of those is, so I can get my money back if the board is screwed.
