Major problems, Motherboard to blame?

I turned on my computer the other day and for some strange reason the keyboard and mouse not working ( plugged into usb ports, tried other ports same result), and Monitor would not get off standby (I tried another monitor, same thing). Computer continues to boot up but nothing is working with it. I then tried plugging in the ethernet port and the light would not turn on as if it would not recognize the cable, ( cable works on other computer).

I was wondering if the motherboad went bad or is it something else that went bad.

using Asus P4P800 Deluxe with FSB 800MHz
DDR 400 Crucial 512 stick of ram
Intel 2.8 Ghz with Hyper threading
and MSI Geforce 4 Ti4200

Don't worry, this is a regular problem. You might have overclocked or something like that. All you have to do is clear your Cmos. For me personally, this means flipping the switch on my power supply on the back of my case, and waiting a couple seconds. Once you flip it back on your Cmos will be reset. If this does not work, then remove your battery for 30 seconds or so after you turn off power. There is also a jumper on your motherboard, consult your handbook. It should be a 3 pin connector with a jumper cap on pins 1 and 2. Usually you just move them to 2 and 3 for a minute or so. But consult your handbook; this is not a biggie.

this might be a stupid question, but I will ask it anyway for safe keeping, do you change the jumpers with the power off right?

Yes. And if you don't know where your system's discussion of MB switches and what not is now located, almost all system makers, MB makers, etc. keep copies of various manuals nicely available on their Internet web sites for several years after those parts/ PC's are first produced. The really old stuff, if it was popular, is often collected on private web sites after the original manufacturer goes out of business or believes the item is just too old to support in any fashion any longer.

On a typical "ATX" format motherboard, both the battery itself, the BIOS chip, and the three pins with a jumper device on two pins are all located at a point I consider to be "lower right" when looking into the side of any mid-tower style computer case, in which the PCI cards are aligned parallel to the desk the box is sitting on, with their backplane mount flanges on my far left.

I reset the CMOS as it said in my owner's manual, however, nothing has changed. Monitor still does not go off standby, keyboard and mouse still do not work.

if resetting the cmos makes no difference, should I go ahead and look for a new board and if so any suggestions on a possible good one? I woudn't mind spending around $200 as long as I had room to upgrad with the same board later.

I have the P4P800 deluxe by Asus with 800FSB
