I recently completed my first build and everything was going great. I stupidly decided to install Vista 64 Home. My old Compaq had XP. Well with Vista my printer doesn't have full function, scanner won't work, Corel Painter IX.5 won't work, Kodak Easyshare won't work, etc. So I finally decide to get rid of Vista and go back to XP.

None of the options I tried for getting them both on the same system were working. When I was trying to install XP I was getting an error message about a hard disk problem. They work fine with Vista. I was getting a 0X0000007B (0XF78D2524,0XC0000034,0X00000000,0X00000000) message.

I have two HDD's. I unplug the one with Vista and try to install XP. When I hit enter at the install screen it tells me it can't read the disc. It says to put the disc in the drive and press enter. It wants the full version of the disc. I thought I had that but the disc says upgrade on it. Is this not the full version? I went from Windows ME to XP and had to get this disc to do it.

Is there any way I can get XP running or do I need to go out and get another version of it to install it? I put it in my old system and the drive reads it fine. The drive in my new rig reads everything fine except the XP disc.

I formatted the drive with Vista so now they both are clean.

So now I'm back to my old computer with this new one sitting here and even if install Vista it won't run the programs and things I want it to.

Someone please help!

If you're doing a fresh Windows XP install from an upgrade disk, it will ask for a full version disk for a previous version of windows. Do you have a Windows ME full version disk?

You should try putting the ME disk in when it asks you to "put the disc in the drive and press enter".

I don't have the ME disc. It came with my old computer and all I had was a recovery disc. The I had to get a new HD and they said the recovery was basically useless. Then I upgraded to XP.

There is no other way around this problem? I was thinking about getting XP 64 anyway. Maybe I should just do that. Or see if I can find a cheap version of WIN 98. I can't remember what system it asked for though. 98 might be a little too old to use.

I was thinking about the XP 64 because I have 4GB of ram now and could go up to 8GB. But XP32 only sees 3.75. Good idea or not?
