Major Problem help needed (Solved)

Ok I turned on my computer today, logged in (Windows xp pro) I noticed that after I typed in my password it took a long time for windows to boot, (the applying your personal settings message sat there forever). It finally boots up and when it does a bunch of my icons are missing, whenever I open stuff it is like it is the first time I am using windows, I get all these messages and stuff, also a couple of my startup items like my scanner don't load correctly. Ok, so I added a couple of icons back to the desktop and then restarted the computer, and the same thing happens when it starts up again everthing goes back and the icons I add are gone. I only have one account setup on the computer and it is the adminstators account. The last time I had my computer on I didn't do any updates or install any programs. What in the heck is going on this has freaked me out!!! Please Help me I am freaking out!!!

Apparently If I have one norton is not picking it up, I have updated all my definitions and everything and just did a scan and got nothing!!

Did system restore and it worked I guess, My user had somehow become corrupted.....
