so last saturday i was playing counter strike source and i did 2 scrims, then on my 3rd i started getting choke. The last thing i did before i played was take out my harddrive to get the serial number.

Now i get like alot of choke when im playing any source game, only real online games i play. Im talking like 40 choke. I experience no choke while playing half life 2 and gameplay is smooth in oblivion on max settings on 1680x1050. I also get great fps and great ping.

however, i have a small cut in my network cable which i put electrical tape over.

I have done virus scans and they havent fixed the problem. i did a memtest for 45 mins and had no errors.

This is also happening on my sisters computer.

are you running a config at all? use the following netcode tweaks in your cstrike autoexec:

// netcode settings
cl_cmdbackup 2
cl_cmdrate 101
cl_interp 0.01
cl_interpolate 1
cl_lagcomp_errorcheck 1
cl_lagcompensation 1
cl_updaterate 101
cl_smooth 1
rate 25000

if you dont have an autoexec in your cstrike/cfg folder, create a file named autoexec.cfg and put the above tweaks in there. then in your config.cfg, exec autoexec.cfg

i dont think it is the network cable or the router.
There is no connection whatsoever between choke and actual bandwidth limitations of either clients or the server. Choke is directly related to a client\'s game \"rate\" setting, which each client requests individually based on its own setting, but subject to your server\'s sv_minrate and sv_maxrate values. If the server would like to send a client some data but cannot because sending more data at

Choke is a measure of how much data is being restricted on your computer, or what is missing. So if the server runs out of bandwidth everybody gets choke, if your computer runs out of bandwidth, you alone will get choke.

what type of internet connection do you have? have you connected your pc to the cable modem to eliminate the router? some servers are known for choke, like NFO and Velocity. have you tried multiple servers?

adjusting your rates (max bytes/sec you can receive data) IS the way to eliminate choke. are you sure the exec is running?

when in a server with choke, go to your console and try rate 25000, rate 24000, rate 23000, rate 22000, etc until your choke is as close to 0 as its going to get.

raise the rate then, start at 25000, try 30000 etc. I had some choke problems a while back, and raising my rates eliminated it.
