Majesty 2

Has anyone played the 1st one? It good pretty good reviews.

I read about this and its coming out in a month. I just finished playing/obsessed with Kings Bounty which I almost compare the style to as being a medieval strategy/sim game where you don't actually do the fighting.

It looks very interesting and I'm def going to think of picking this one up.

I absolutely loved the first one and it was one of those games I lost a lot of hours in. It has a SIMS feel to it since you don't directly control the heroes on the map, but you can influence the buildings which is really the strategy of the game.

I can't wait to see how Majesty 2 is going to play out, and I hope they really don't get rid of the campy style of humor the first one had.

Well I listening to the opening trailer for the 2nd one and it was someone who sounded an whole lot like Sean Connery. I love these type of games

I've recently been hooked on Medieval 2:TW, Civ 4 and Kings Bounty which have taken up a majority of gaming time the past 7-8 months

If you have a chance, you should play the first one. It's really quite a fun little game and doesn't require as much brain thought as the other games you mentioned. (Especially King's Bounty - I finished it as a Mage by the way. Double-cast Geyser FTW)

The only problem is the original Majesty had a lot of the old Bink Codec style movies and animations in the game, which don't agree with a lot of modern operating systems. Even Windows XP had a lot of glitches with it, so if you have Windows 98SE or Windows ME boot machine laying around... definitely worth it 😛

I loved the first one, it was such a fun game. One of my favorite parts was the ridiculous names everybody got, and their silly phrases. I can't wait for this to come out.

I've never played Kings Bounty, is it similar?

I played the first game a lot as well. My favorite thing was to baby sit the wizards, constantly casting the movement haste buff and heals on them so that they would level up and start kicking ass. I remember them getting pretty nice once they got fireball and completely insane once they got meteor storm.

I got the expansion but had trouble with it due to it scrolling around way too fast on modern computers

I'm definitely consdiering checking this out. Anyone know what kind of DRM is going to be on this?

Kings Bounty.. just checked it out on Steam. Looks a lot like Heroes of Might and Magic.

Is it anything similiar to those games? If so i'll probably buy it.

Looks like Majesty 2 will be using the Goo DRM (Game Object Obfuscation) from Stardock

I've always liked Stardock (Galactic Civ, etc) and this DRM scheme sounds like it might be interesting, I'll have to keep an eye on this one

http://www.reuters.com/article...5-Mar-2009+PRN20090325

"One of our primary goals for Impulse Reactor is to create a solution that
will appeal to game developers while adhering to the Gamers Bill of Rights,"
said Brad Wardell, president & CEO of Stardock. "Publishers want to be able to
sell their games in as many channels as possible but don't want to have to
implement a half-dozen 'copy protection' schemes. Game Object Obfuscation lets
the developer have a single game build that can be distributed everywhere
while letting gamers potentially be able to re-download their game later from
any digital service. Plus, it finally makes possible a way for gamers and
publishers to transfer game licenses to players in a secure and reliable
fashion."

EDIT: There's already a thread on the DRM here: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...key=y&keyword1=goo+drm

I think I only played a demo of Majesty although I don't know why I remember having the full game?(And maybe an expansion, weird...) Because there was like only one freaking level. I hated that game to death for some reason. I don't recall why. :/ Maybe I'll try Majesty 2?

King's Bounty is a fantasy/sword/magic/dragon style game. There isn't much story behind it but you play 1 of 3 classes and have troops of either humans, elves, dwarves, undead, demons, bears, goblins, etc. The battles are basically a board game as you move your soldiers around the area and attack your opponent. It is very strategic and there are many different paths you can take as well as numerous different troops to use.

The game is very long and I got hooked

I've been watching this one myself as well.

They have their own Web site now:

http://www.majesty2.com/#/news/whats_new_in_majesty2/

Release date is currently September 18, so it's not too far off.

It's going to be using GOO DRM:

I'm not too sure about GOO, I don't know much about it.
If it relies on a Server for installation/activation then I may have to pass on this 🙁

The way things have been going, you can't depend on a Company to remain in Business or keep it's activation Servers running - essentially making your purchase worthless.

You shouldn't worry about it too much, typically they release a final DRM removal patch if things go south. Also since it's a Russian developed game, more than likely should anything happen to the developer, the publisher will eat it right up and claim it as their own.

don't know if I ever got the expansion, but just saw my copy of the original. Can't recall if I ever played it much.

let me change that to I do have the expansion for one. while looking for something else just now I came across the unopened majesty 1 expansion box on my shelf 🙂
