Main site page is a mess

I know people are already going off about this in this thread but it really needs it's own topic. Look at this screenshot:

Massive amounts of wasted space left and right (why is this white??). The ad at the top if enormous and combined with the other two ads on that page as well I bet the actual site itself accounts for less than 20% of what you see.

I browsed AT for years when Anand owned it but since Purch took over I've been forced to install Ad-Block on my own machine but I browsed today on a different machine and could not believe what I saw. Things only seem to be getting worse.

Sad to say, but that blank white space is actually supposed to be composed of ads. It is most likely blank due to a frequency cap placed on large ads, limiting the number of times a user is exposed to them on a weekly basis.

I agree that the situation is...less than good, shall we say? The Community team browses our sites with adblockers off, so that we can get a better understanding of what users see and experience, and I'm not entirely happy about the amount of ads or their placement either.

I know this is a contentious topic, since both sides want vastly different things. As one of the guys in the middle, representing both the users and Purch, well, it's a crappy spot to be in. I've raised this issue with higher ups before without much success, but I'll be sure to pass along your feedback.

I think most of us get that this is a for profit enterprise, and expect some advertising. But somewhere in between no adds at all and a verticalscope owned forum, there should be a place that everyone can live with. You guys get to turn a profit, we aren't assailed by a wall of flashing gibberish. I'd hate to see this place die from over fertilizing.

I just checked out the portal and it looks good here!!!!

Some ads but not too many........ (I usually come right to the bases,I dont goto the portal ever really (On any site (Ah man!!)))
