I went to bed the other night and woke up to find that my main computer had "partial limitied connection problems", claimed to be running a 100 mbs but receiving nothing, unable to connect to the internet.
Modem and router work (as I am typing this from a networked computer), and I swapped out cables and such with no luck. Could this be a network card death overnight? Nothing touched the computer yet it went from wonderful and fast to very useless.

Your ideas and theories are appreciated.

I've seen computers that the nic appears to be working with a valid ip, etc. I replaced it and the replacement worked. They are simply disposable.

happens sonetimes due to loose connections with the PCI slots, because of dust or moisture. Remove the NIC, clean the edges with IP Alcohol, and insert it again. Works most of the time. However, if the problem manifests repeatedly, try with another slot or replace the card

Replace the card (10 bucks), possibly winsock2 fix, or yeah, certainly you want to remove and reseat before you spend any time or money. Unlikely but worth a shot.
