Mailing Amazon returns

In the past, I used to be able to choose my shipping method when returning items to Amazon for "changing my mind". Now, however, if I want to go through the returns center, the only option is to use their pre-paid UPS label, which isn't always the cheapest. Also, they don't seem to support shipping items from multiple orders in the same box. Am I missing something, or did they change their return work flow?

Thanks!

it is probably more efficient for Amazon. If you bought from a seller and not from Amazon you should contact the seller and ask if you can ship with USPS. Better track it thought because USPS workers loose (aka steal) stuff all the time when it's not tracked.

I always choose "Defective/Does not work" and have the choice of rolling my own shipping or using their label.

I wouldn't recommend it but I've also taken the chance of putting multiple orders in one box. With the appropriate printed return pages in the box they've figured it out.

I did chat with an Amazon rep. The first rep told me, go ahead, put items from multiple orders in the same box. However, I used a shipping label generated by returns center for that box.
Unfortunately, it appears they don't look at the contents, just the labels, as the items weren't processed, and I had to have another chat sessions - painless experience, but just makes me wonder about the processes.

So you choose "Defective/Does not work" even if it does ?

Amazon live chat rocks. I got a refund of one day shipping when my items didn't come the next day. They were suppose to.

Be really careful with that.

They'll close your account and you won't get your Prime membership money back if you have Prime.

Be aware that there's no resusitating your account once they close it.

Sometimes I guess I use "Description on website not accurate" to also get a free return. I have two Prime accounts, one business one personal, for a total of around 150 orders in 2015, and returned around dozen or so of them. I'd be surprised if they shut me off but anything is possible.

Both options are pretty broad so if something is listed as "comfortable" or "durable" or the size chart isn't totally accurate, it weighs X lbs, etc. and it is not those things then the description was not accurate and/or the item would not work for my purposes.

I admit it's sometimes a stretch but I can live with it. Everything I order I fully intend to keep so it's not like getting a 70" TV from Costco just for the Superbowl and returning it on Monday.

Why are you paying for return shipping? I've never done that no matter what I chose.

If you select you just dont want it anymore you are charged for shipping. I always get charged shipping for those kinds of returns unless I tried to cancel while it was in the process of shipping. I know I can get away with making something up, but its only a few bucks.

i've never had to pay for return shipping either, but i guess it's because i am a prime member. returns to amazon are so extremely easy. i keep extra amazon boxes around the house simple for return reasons so i'll have a box if i ever have to return something.

I'm a prime member. What is the reason you are choosing?

I'd say you're on the edge.

I returned about 10 things out of over 100+ orders and they closed one of my Prime accounts.

They don't fuck around.

They send you a "warning email" first, but that is as good as a kiss of death for that account as they close you out two months later anyways...no matter how many orders you place in that time frame to help correct the purchase/return ratio for their computers.

And there is no if, but, when's about complaining to the Account Supervisor.

They WILL NOT REOPEN the account come hell or high water. It's closed for good. Googling it you'll see nobody resusitates a closed account.

whatever the reason is that i return items for. but every item i've purchased was sold by amazon or fulfilled by them, which i know does make a difference.

i've definitely chosen that i just didn't want it, multiple times.

Everyone gets charged for return shipping if they're returning because they didn't like it and is a normal return. Of course they can cheat Amazon and make up some other bogus reason to qualify for free return shipping. Several people in this thread seem perfectly happy returning items under false pretense.

You must never return something because you dont want it. I actually returned two motherboards last week, and will return one today. One I didnt realize had a different chipset (H170 vs Z170) and said it was ordered by mistake, and I was charged for return shipping. One had problems booting and I said it was defective, and I wasnt charged shipping. I always buy Prime for free shipping, and if its sold by Amazon I buy from them over fulfilled by Amazon, as long as the price is within a couple bucks. The last one I tried to cancel an hour after the order was placed, but they said it was too far in the process of being fulfilled. I guess One Day shipping bit me in the butt on that one. They said I could return it without any penalty. In all three scenarios, its been like this for as long for awhile. At one time it didnt matter, return shipping was always free, but not for a long time.

And I'm not a serial returner. This last week I just happened to be in a rush and didnt research what I really wanted.

Yeah, thats probably the case. I've seen this in one of the monitor threads where people return the monitors over and over because of IPS glow.

Maybe, but they might also not charge for high spenders.

i buy a lot from amazon, probably average at least 1 package a week from them, so maybe there is something to that as well.

hell i've "returned" 2-3 items that i simply didn't want, and amazon told me to keep them and they refunded me anyways. they were like $7 items but still, that is pretty damn awesome lol.

and that is on top of other returns. definitely not a serial returner though.
