Mail Server Files in Win XP...

I "opened" a few airplane .jpgs from a mail server last night using Outlook Express and I can't find them now. It seems like when I had Win 98 I could use Outlook Express to open a .jpg and then it would automatically store the image or at least the location of the picture as a link on my hard drive so I could get the picture again without finding it Kind of like a news server "cookie" (if there is such a thing). Now it looks as though I have to save the attached .jpg file as a permanet file on my local drive for future viewing... Is this so, or did I miss something? In short, is there any way to retrieve any data thats bee opened on a news server after the fact, or is it gone forever - subject to a research of the news group assuming the picture is even still posted...?
