Mail Ordering Tires for my car

Tirerack.com has some of the best prices on tires. I am sure a lot of people source from them. But the thing I am confused about is ... which store (/ retail-chains) will get them mounted ?

When I buy local they offer lifetime rotation and balancing at any of their retail locations across the country.

Will any store offer me that benefit if I bring my own tires (in this case, from tirerack.com).

Thanks.

there's are plenty of tire places. just pay them to mount and balance. it's like $8 and $5 per tire.

i used a "preferred installer" when i ordered from tire rack, the web site has them listed. i had the tires shipped directly to them , then just made an appointment to get them installed

they did a really good job, i'll do it again

Thanks all .. I decided to go with Costco ... since they have incredible pricing and after-sale benefits ... also a minor side bonus - they fill tires with nitrogen.

Lifetime balancing is not needed. I paid $8 a tire for one time balancing and free mounting last time I got tires.

Doesn't Tirerack.com provide a list of dealers in your area, and they ship right to the dealer?

Their prices really aren't spectacular when you figure in shipping and all that. If you have a Costco membership, I think they have a $60 coupon out now. My tires would have been cheaper from Costco than Tirerack if Costco had sold my tires at the time I bought them (they started selling them shortly after 🙁).

And who uses "source" in place of "buy" in the context of an end-user purchase? 😕

Costco has that $60 off coupon for Michelin almost all the time
if you have a common tire size, costco is good

if you have a size they don't have in inventory, then i use tirerack with a preferred installer , it is about the same price and if you have the tires shipped directly to the installer, the time/work involved is about the same

They fill tires with nitrogen? Good one. Air is mostly nitrogen. You could save even more by having them filled with nitrogen rich air.

And BF Goodrich.

as opposed to what? 80% nitrogen and 20% oxygen?

Yes. They use 100% nitrogen instead of air. More a marketing gimmick than anything I think.

nitrogen doesn't hold water vapor so you get more consistent air pressure. I think it's really only worth it if you can get it for free. I sure wouldn't pay a premium for it.

But any place that does it has to pass the cost along somehow, so under most circumstances you *are* paying a premium for it.

correct.

air = 80% water + 20% oxygen + water vapor (amount varies based on humidity)
