mail in rebate on shotguns

OS

Lifer
I was browsing through a big 5 ad and noticed the shotgun of the week had a $20 mail in rebate. Too bad there's no coupon I can use also.

I don't know much about guns, but what is the downside to those $80 shotguns I am always so tempted to buy?

Likely lower quality materials/craftmanship. I am assuming this is a new shotgun.

Most likely a knock off from China.

It all depends on what you want to use it for.. For someone that just wants something for home defense that they don't plan on shooting often, a cheap single-shot shotgun (most 80$ shotguns would be single shot) will do just fine.

I think the rebate that was mentioned is for the Remington Model 870 Express 12ga pump shotgun, which is not a bad beginner's gun either.. It is one of Remington's cheapest models (around 250$), and is a good all-around gun, with a lot less recoil than many of your cheaper shotguns (New England Arms).

I would not recommend anything with a one round capacity for home defense. You need a pump shotgun or revolver at the minimum.

It probably only holds one shell, so you have to reload it after each shot.

I guess that depends on where you live too.. In the ghetto, you might need quite a few rounds to knock someone off 😉
Most situations, more than one shot would be overkill to stop a situation, especially in a situation where just holding the gun on a burglar, etc. would do the trick, and a shot would not need to be fired. Personally, I keep several guns in different places in my home, with shells nearby, but none of them loaded. I figure holding a shotgun to someone that has broken into my home will suffice until the cops arrive. They won't have to know whether it's loaded or not.

If you miss, for any reason, you would find yourself in a pretty crappy situation. You have to be fully prepared to shoot and accept the consequences.

The firearm most likely to be used in such a situation is my Ruger P89 loaded with +P+ hollowpoints.

12 ga Benelli Nova Pump (Special Purpose + ghost ring sights), with a recoil reducer installed.

I still need to pick up the mag extension for it, right now I can only get 5 rounds in it.

Nice choice. I have never been much of a shotty guy myself.

If my only choice was unloaded or one round I think I'd pass on the gun entirely.

Not even worth picking up if you can't make good on the threat.

I think it was a remington
What are you going to use it for?
Killing his neighbors, of course.
Hey OS, were you one of the hoodlums that killed the old man in Ontario the other day, the one who was shot in the park restroom?😉😛 I won't tell!

Man, that guy was running his mouth about how he would school me in Quake and then I, oh wait, actually I have an alibi. :Q
