Mail.app not downloading self sent emails

Are you using g-mail? If so set it up (if using IMAP) using the gmail recommended client settings on their help section. otherwise it wont work perfectly.

Make sure you've checked the box (under the Account Settings) to save sent items to Sent Items folder. (Don't know the exact text, on a pc right).

I'm using POP3 and I'm talking about messages that I emailed to myself using Gmail.com and then trying to get it downloaded to my desktop client.

If you use IMAP, it still downloads them to your computer. The difference is that it doesn't delete them from Gmail, which is (IMO) the main advantage for using Gmail.

Biggest difference for IMAP is that you're working off the same data. Read a message in gmail, it shows read in Mail (vice versa).

Sorry that we're kinda crapping your thread, but your actual problem sounds like it's a quirk in gmail's implementation of POP. (I don't know of another reason why it would skip those messages - almost like they have a separate routine running for messages that are sent from localaccount to localaccount that bypasses their servers - hence your comp isn't downloading them.)

I have Gmail set up through Mail with IMAP and if I send a message to myself through Gmail's web client, it doesn't show on my Mac either. I still think it's Gmail though. I have Outlook checking the same account at home and self sent emails never show up there either.

Also, if I send myself a message through mail, it doesn't show up in my Mail inbox either. Wish I could figure this out too.
