I'm seriously interested in these, and am hoping they do manage to bring a product line to the US. I owned 4 diesels, and a 30mpg medium sized truck would kick ass. It's the only vehicle that I would consider replacing my 20mpg F250 diesel with.

 
id wait a few years before buying into it personally. daihatsu comes to mind when thinking of the service horrors that could happen.

Way too expensive for unknown brand and commodity. I just don't see people willing to be beta tester on mid $20k truck from India. Maybe if it was under $10k...
 
Or they could just sell the diesel Hilux version here that they have in Europe and be done with it.
 
It looks like a good deal on the surface, but I'd wait and see how they perform. Give me a no-frills small truck with a diesel engine with an interior I can clean out with a hose. Hopefully they deliver.

Maybe, but a totally unknown quantity at this point. Cheap looks, probably a cheap interior, no extended or double cab, low wage manufacturing and assembly. Still a $15k truck.

Click the link at mahindra, it shows a crew cab 4 door. I registered for a test drive. If it passes the comfort test I'll keep looking at it.
 
Where would this thing be assembled? Durability might be a concern..

EDIT: Article says India, but speculates that they will use common suppliers for the powertrain, interior, etc.

I dunno, this one's going to depend on the dealer network. Even if its built out of known good parts, things will still break, and someone needs to fix it. I wouldn't buy one if I had to rely upon it for work until it had at least a few years' record in the US.
