Magneto V. Iron Man

according to the very nerdy Marvel superheroes and villains assessment system, Magneto is a top tier character, while Iron Man is firmly middle-of-the-road; Magneto's powers during his storylines progress into the realm of ridiculously OPness, akin to Phoenix and Xavier.
Iron Man is just some guy in a suit.

but then again, its just comics. if the writers want it, it happens.

The winner would be whichever one could find the other while they're sleeping and put a bullet in their head. Magneto has lots of friends, but Stark has a bigger budget and is probably smarter. I'm pretty sure Stark could track Magneto down first if he was sufficiently motivated.

In comics, magneto could lift, move, crush any metal, including non-magnetic ones like calcium. Magneto was able to lift Thors hammer. Though not able to use it like Thor could.

Exactly. Spiderman kicking FireLord's ass is a prime example.

I think there was an entire Marvel run where he killed almost every superhero in the Marvel universe. 😛
I will have to check that out, thanks.

Completely depends on how much metal is nearby to Magneto. He could surround Iron Man and imprison him, until he died of dehydration. Otherwise, Iron Man would win because he can fly faster (as far as I know), has weapons, and also sorts of AI assistance.

am I missing something?

what is it about Iron Man's suit (that makes him Iron Man) that would prevent Magneto from utterly destroying him with a wink?

Actually hasn't Tony Stark got a chunk of ferrous shrapnel in his heart? Magneto could presumably use that to mince him up good and proper.

Which universe are we considering? If we're talking about the movies then no, he doesn't have that anymore.

It's already been explained, but it depends on how literal you want to take Magneto's power. The Iron Man suit isn't actually made of iron, it's an alloy that isn't magnetic. If Magneto's power is being able to generate and manipulate magnetic forces then he couldn't just crush him like a used can. But that's probably too literal for a discussion involving mutations and arc reactors.

It's been explained that Magneto is not limited to ferrous, magnetic metals.

sorry, Tony Stark is mincemeat.

Iron in blood = magneto could make any human, including Tony Stark, explode from their asshole outward. I.e. no way iron man or any human could ever beat Magneto face to face. Only pre-meditated.

Iron man has fought and lost. There is precedent. This shouldn't even be a thread. It's basically an "I'm a noob at comics" thread.

Did any of you guys actually watch the first Iron Man movie? They clearly state in the movie that 'technically, its not Iron. Its a gold-titanium allow . . .'

Wikipedia says pure gold is not magnetic and titanium is only paramagnetic. The bulk of Tony's classic armor would be only slightly effected by Magneto at all, though there's likely circuit pathways Magneto could futz with. If he was precise enough.

Lets not forget that Tony Stark is a genius, if he were going into a fight with the Master of Magnetism, I'd expect he'd take precautions. Carbon fiber armor, etc.

I remember a long time ago a comic book nerd friend of mine commenting on how badass Magneto really was. He had an issue where it showed Magneto going to town on Prussian soldiers, using the iron in their blood to cause embolisms, blockages and strokes.

Carbon fiber armor won't help there.

Even ignoring the fact that Magneto manipulates metal through magic, not magnetism,

Iron Mans outer shell is made up of gold/titanium.

His circuitry and shit are mostly likely normal metals.

how about villainous ironman

Maybe Tony Stark could cook something up out of plastic... put a pyrex jug on his head and wear a binbag etc, magneto would have no powers then!

Plastic Man! Our cheap, tacky, easily breakable and highly replaceable hero of the modern age with resistance to neither heat nor cold! Go Plastic Man!

I hate when writers make the heroes basically omnipotent. Just like how movie-Wolverine can insta-heal.
