All they had was beige and serial #s starting with P, so I passed for now. Might get one for work though.

I emailed your account at school if you want to exchange bezels.

Just thought of something we can swap bezels but the drive door/tray would have to be swaped too. Oh well if anyone wants to swap their white drive Pacific Digital Lite On for a Black Bezel PM me please. Haven't opened mine yet

My other local OM took the Magicspin back and gave me the PD and the $79.99 out the door price without me even asking. Turned out to be a Lite-on 811S just as others said. It was a 4xxxx serial #, which is what I looked for.

My friend who went in with me grabbed on too, as did some guy standing behind me after he heard the deal.

is there a specific way to get these stores to do the sub deal? any advice here on talking them into/letting them know of this deal and making it work for me?

apologies if asking a question like this is taboo

My store had a substitution list from their corporate office which instructed the store to use the Pacific Digital as a substitute. Just ask them to look at the list and tell them a friend in another state got the substitution.

hrmm...closest OM to me still has a couple of the magicspins left... :(

what are the chances they get picked up by the time I get there? heh

they'll only substitute if the magicspins are out, right?

FYI the OM I stopped at in Atlanta is out, they said other stores are out too. They should get more drives in Friday night.

Mine came with firmware 110e and I haven't messed with it yet. I was going to change to 130, but I read that it disables HD Burn.

I stayed with 110e, as well.

I'm waiting on the upcoming firmware from Optorite that will add 8x DVD-R writing:
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/News/Details.asp?RelatedID=4730

(It's a one line blurb in the article; the rest talks about Sony)

Cool. Good to see that blurb in a news article rather than just via a forum post. Would be nice to know a date, but considering 8x media is not even avilable for -R drives I'm really not in a hurry.

I called my OM (in Durham, NC) and they were out of stock of the MagicSpin, but the guy I talked to said they would do no substitutions. Damn.

Well, then you simply call them back tell them that Corporate has issued a substitution authorization and that if they still refuse to substitute you will call OfficeMax Corporate Headquarters to complain.

Is this true? If so I'll go do that right now!

I just returned my black bezel PD for a white one. They still have 1 magicspin left. I think for those of you with OM stores with a few MS left, just buy them and tell them you want the PD as well. Return the MS the next day to different store :)

I wouldn't worry too much if you didn't get in on this offer. OM has had this same drive listed on their sale advertisement every other week for six weeks or so. Initially it was $119.99 ARs and now $79.99 AR. Will probably be $59.99 AR in six more weeks and FREE AR by Christmas.

I bought the Pac Digital (Lite-On 851), the WD 80 GB HDD, and a pack of 25 DVD+R blanks (Value Disc) yesterday for about $170 out the door after a $30 off $150 coupon. $60 total due back in rebates. Today I called to see what they had in blank DVD+r discs after reading about the HP subs. The lady who answered the phone said that they were out of the ones in the ad, but had the HP's. I went to the store and saw the Value Disc brand discs all over the place. I asked about the HP's and the lady went over to the shelf, picked up a pack of them and marked them down to $9.99 (no Rebate). They were marked either $45 or $49 on the shelf. All in all, a very successful two days at O Max. Thanks for the heads up!

So if my burner has that 1.10e firmware can i safely say that I got the opterite drive? Using DVDInfoPro it just shows up as a generic drive. As I previously stated it doesnt have the number identifiers of either the Opterite drive or the BVC drive.

Optorites website list the following media as being able to burn at 8x. I looked up the codes from DVDHelp and I listed the following brands that use that type of media.

Media Code
MCC 003 - This is real 8X Media.
MCC 002 - according to DVDHelp = 4X (HP, SONY, TDK, Verbatim Datalife plus)
RICOHJPNR01 - according to DVDHelp = 4X (Arita, Fijifilm, Imation, Infiniti, LiteOn, Maxell, Memorex, Philips, Ritek, Ricoh, Sony, TDK, Verbatim Datalife Plus)
CMC MAG F01 - according to DVDHelp = 4X (Imation, Memorex, Sunstar, Philips, TDK)
YUDEN000T01 - according to DVDHelp = 4X (JDLaser, Plextor, Maxell, That's Verbatim Datalife Plus)

<scotner - don't forget to send in the $10 rebate on that HP +R 25 pack.>

Will that work? The UPC codes are different. I thought that was why they sold them outright for $9.99.
Oh well, 37 cents to try it. Thanks.
