The classic card game Magic The Gathering came out with an Xbox Live Arcade version called Duels of the Planeswalkers last October which is now on sale for half off for this week. Normally 800 MS Points ($10), it can now be purchased for 400 MS Points ($5).

Duels of the Planeswalkers includes a tutorial, single and multiplayer campaigns along with unique challenges and online batlles with friends. The game also includes the requisite online leaderboards and achievements.

This deal is only available to Live Gold subscribers. A free trial version of the game is also available.

Don't tell me they charge the same price for virtual cards as they do for the PC game.

The fact that Virtual MTG is the same price as physical cards is absolutely retarded.

I like these Xbox Live Arcade deals, $5.00 for games is nice. I'm assuming that once I buy this I won't have to buy any more hoping to get special cards like the physical cards? I never played any one these type of games but look interesting.

MtG is very popular. I just started playing again after 10 years when I found a card shop that has 50+ players every weekend day playing.

I still play it. Although I just learned how to play last year..to the guy throwing out cards.. you just burned money!

older cards tend to be worth good money.

Why? Online > paper, in almost every way. Unless you miss the smell of unshowered nerds congregated at a tiny card shop.

Haha, I know, but I CBA about sorting them out and figuring out their value, and it took up valuable bookshelf space. So in the trash it went.

I tried the demo & it was pretty fun, pretty tempting.

I still have my cards somewhere, all from the early to mid 90's, although I haven't played for a long time. One of these days I'll have to check and see if any of them are worth something.

Really? I must have about 5000 from the late 90's.

Duels of the Planeswalkers is structurally completely different than Magic the Gathering: Online. Duels of the Planeswalkers has a limited cardbase and doesn't allow you to purchase cards/packs, whereas MtG:O is the paper analog and can be a huge money sink.

So you're saying that if you buy this game for ~$5. That's all you'll ever spend on it? I've never played MtG, but I've always been a bit interested, just couldn't afford to be competitive. If this game has some way of "earning" cards instead of having to keep buying more, I might jump on it.

IF and that's a big IF they're still handing out the Garruk promo card with the game, the card is easily worth $10 itself......

A lot of people are still playing MTG. Baneslayer Angel foil, a current T2 powerhouse, are going for $100 per. P9 are still going for $300+... dual lands are at least $25 per...

I'd like to buy this game but every time I try to add Microsoft points on their site it gives me a "Sorry, this page is unavailable" error. I get the same error when I go to the OPs game link and click "Download to Xbox 360". I've been trying since last night.

I'd just get it from Amazon but they're out of the 1600 point online codes.
