Agreed, it's insanely low but if it goes belly-up your only out the $39.99 not
$100-200 so I might give it a shot..

theyve been around for years...

I use one because we get crappy cellphone reception in the house.

I have Comcast budget connection (768 down), and if I am downloading a tv episode or a game through Steam the phone is unusable.

With nothing hogging the bandwidth however, it's great.

I use mine 2 to 3 times a week for long distance calls only. Still working fine for my purposes.

I'm was about to give it a 30 day FREE trial, but been reading complaints about people getting charged for the free trial right away and more than $39.95 +$6.95 shipping. especially those paying by debit card. I suggest you use a vitual credit card number. Citibank and Discovercard offer this service. For each on-line transaction you can generate a one time use ony CC number with a 1 month validation date. Your real CC number is never used. This is the only way I shop on-line now.

From their website:
100% RISK FREE,
30 DAY FREE TRIAL
Get your magicJack and one year of Free Local and Long Distance Calls.
* On the 31st day you will be charged $39.95 plus $6.95 s&h

Get your magicJack and one year of Free Local and Long Distance calls. In the unlikely event you didn't fall in Love with your magicJack, send it back (no questions asked) within 30 days and you owe nothing. There is NO RISK! We only bill you when and only when, you decide to keep your magicJack.

They took down their official forum, but it has been moved here: http://www.magicjacksupport.com/.

From reading some of the posts there and at other sites people either love it or hate it.
Praises: cheap, cheap, cheap, easy to set up for most people, portability, clear sound clarity, reliable
Complaints: 30 day FREE trial starts from the day you sign up, not from when you receive it; some people getting billed immediately and for more for the 30 day FREE trial; customer support is almost non-existant consisting of only a live chat session (Indian call center) buried deep in their website; problems getting RMAs and refunds; not being able to get Magic Jack to work and when working dropped calls, poor sound quality, buzzing, echoes, choppy, low volume levels; not all area codes available; pc must be on constantly; no portage available yet
