magic 3.1 modchips -- $28

yea they do installations but it seems too expensive to get one done for my taste.

its much much much cheaper to do it by yourself

you gotta have steady hands cuz the solder points are really small. and for 22 wires, that's 44 points. that's alot of time and patience.

if they guarantee that the ps2 will still work after the modding, then it might be worth it, if you're like me, don't have much experience w/ a soldering iron.

Hello Everyone,

We are closing down the shop for 1 week.

We wanted to inform everyone that we will be closed over the next 8 days - April 26th-May 3rd, 2003.

Orders can still be processed automatically through the website during this time. Any orders placed during the next 8 days will be shipped Monday morning May 5th, 2003. This also means no extra order confirmations from our Sales Deptartment like they normally send out when accepting all customer orders.

There will simply be no email replies from any of our Departments over the the next 8 days. All emails, tracking numbers and general inquiries will be replied to Monday morning May 5th, 2003.

We are also issuing refunds to all our customers that have pre-ordered with us for Official Magic 3.1 today as it is not our policy or the way we do business to keep customers money for a lengthy period of time without delivering product even if it is considered a pre-order. This especially holds true when we are closing down the shop for 1 week.

We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this has caused anyone.

doesnt seem too hot.

shucks... and I was lookin forward to clustering several ps2s with Linux...
oh well, back to the Xbox with Linux on it...

Yes.. it's illegal... unless the chips aren't flashed with any copyrighted code, it's perfectly legal to sell and buy.. which might explain why all of the xecuter chips now come flashed with the cromwell 1.8 bios instead of the x2 bioses.. those are xbox modchips, the x2 lite and x2 pro... however.. i think it's still illegal to open up your console to and install these chips.. I'm not sure about that.

In related news, this is also why isonews.com got busted.. for selling modchips preflashed with illegal code.

this discussion is very interesting but the reason i bumped this old thread is to see if anyone has an answer to my question.

any guides out there for modding a v1 ps2? looks impossible to do.

supposedly the magic 3.1 will work on all consoles v1-v7. They have wiring diagrams on the site I listed above. I did the v7 and it was a bitch. If you don't have any skills with a soldiering iron, I'd pay a professional to do it. Better yet, sell your old ps2 & buy a new one premodded.

if u want installation service u could go w/ psx-tech, i got my ps2 chipped there once w/ a magic 2 and then w/ the magic 3.1 and since i'm in the same city it only took an hour and worked great both times.

What is the best xbox mod chip on the market right now? I am looking for something that is fairly simple to install. Thanks in advance.

Do they offer to mod the ps2 for you?
Don't be scared! I did my orginal PSX and my ex-neighbors and it was a cinch. As long as you are smooth with a soldering iron, no sweat (at least that's how us old schoolers would do it). How are mod chips put on now-a-days?

V1-3 are a HELL to mod, dont even bother to try if you are not good enough with soldering .1mm wires that are only .1mm apart from each other. If you are new or only solder PS1/Xbox before, go for a version 7. I mod PS2s in Gainesville, FL.

btw, consolecomm is great, except it took about 7-10 days for the modchips to get to me from cananda to Florida... oh well, free shipping.

Isn't this illegal?

no.

why did isonews.com get shut down and the owner sent to jail and fined $30,000 if it is legal?

what he did was illegal, he had part in selling modchips WITH illegal code already on them, there is nothing illegal in purchasing modchips blank or with the cromwell bios
