Magazine Charge

tweakmm

Lifer
Wired magazine automaticly renewed itself. I was sent something in the mail that said if I didn't respond that my subscription would be canceled. I am checking my balance online for my checking acount and i see a charge for $24.00 from wired. I tried calling the number listed but there is no way for me to speak to a human.
What can i do to get this charge canceled

What's the phone number you called?

Have you tried calling your credit card's customer service and disputing the charge?

Method 1 is a lot easier than method 2.

Try 1(415) 276-5000. They may have someone answer. If not try 212-286-2860.

He could have used a debit card which is usually linked to a checking account, either way that's BAAAAAAD news. This is yet another example why I always recommend:

NEVER EVER EVER USE A DEBIT/CHECK CARD FOR INTERNET PURCHASES!!!

This has been a public service announcement.

yes, it was a debit card for my purchase. Looking back, it was a bad idea, but I don't have a credit card(I'm too young). I think I'm going to get my parents to cosign on an Amex blue for me.
Can I dispute a charge on a debit card?

Hell I NEVER use a check/debit card (don't even have a debit card). Always use credit. % back (not much, but it adds up). I'd favor having someone fight ME to get their money rather than me having to fight THEM to get it back. Once it's out of your account it's gone. At least with a CC you still have the cash.

Again, what is the phone number you dialed and were unsuccessful at reaching a live human?

The good news is that you used a debit card instead of debiting your checking account directly. If Wired refunds your $24 to you they can recredit your debit card which will in turn recredit your checking account.

The bad news is you used a debit card for an internet purchase!

Definitely get your parents to co-sign on a cc for you and use it responsibly.

This is partially true. Most banks (Bank of America for instance) offer protection on their debit cards against unauthorized purchases BUT and this is a big BUT while they are investigating and you're jumping through their hoops your "REAL MONEY" (which was in your checking/savings account) is GONE.

If you use a credit card, it's all "PLAY MONEY" (or at least it is to me) ok let's call it "VIRTUAL MONEY". So it's ok if it takes some time to investigate the matter and rectify the situation.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER USE YOUR DEBIT/CHECK CARD FOR INTERNET PURCHASES!!!
