This is one thing where I think it could actually wake up idiots who refuse to believe trump is a moron, Americans drink a shit ton of coffee.
a shit ton equals 1.62 billion pounds per year. We are going to have a lot more assholes roaming the streets come next year when they can't afford their fix.

Yes, but honeslty, we can't really be sure how many are really due to Trump being re-elected, as many of them could be the normal layoffs that happen around this time of year, due to seasonal layed off for the winter months, and seasonal trends (slowdowns) in certain industries. I am sure some of the companies and even citizens will try and push the narrative that the layoffs are due to Trump's re-election, even if that isn't fully true. Don't get me wrong, we do know that thare are some specific ones due to the election, but I would take layoffs with a grain of salt when it's being implied that they are due to the election.

Don't know about layoffs, but the threat of tariffs is probably already having effects. Companies stockpiling things that are liable to be subject to them, causing shortages for other companies. Changes in share-prices based on the same anxieties.
I find it hard to believe Trump will really go through with the plan, though. It just seems _so_ mad. Makes Brexit look a very modest form of self-harm in comparison.

The fact that he's coupling it with a demand that other countries magically solve the US's self-inflicted social problems (i.e. drug addiction) for it, just makes it even more crazy. If he goes through with it not only will inflation shoot up, but unemployment probably will as well.

From the standpoint that the worse Trump does, the better off we'll be come the midterm elections, maybe it'll be worth the pain to see the House and Senate taken over by the Democrats. It would be the correction that the nation would need to keep Trump in check.

Overly optimistic? A sense of desperation noted? Probably, yet one can only hope for what should be necessary to offset the insanity of Trump having to get away with all of the crimes he committed by his being elected, all of which had absolutely nothing to do with religious righteousness, morals, ethics and qualifications. Those factors got stomped on, raped, murdered and immolated for him to have a chance at accomplishing his primary goal of "getting even and then some" against his tormenters and especially "those gay, tranny, minority immigrant and women's rights advocates that needed to be put back in their place."

This implies that voters are rational, thinking creatures...

someone i know on facebook is selling one of their vehicles and blaming Biden for it. i thought i would make this meme to add some perspective to the situation
View attachment 112338

They're going to be blaming Biden for every one of Trump's failures too under the catch all nebulously vague yet erotically satisfying mantra "well it's because of the total mess that Biden left for our guy Trump to clean up."

Yeah, that's the real cost of goods when you don't have cheap labor subsidizing the cost.
Remember, minimum wage, if it has kept pace with inflation, would be like $24/hr today.
Minimum wage should be tethered to COL regionally. The COL here is way way higher here than most places in the USA. A national blanket minimum wage doesn't make sense unless it's for the cheapest-to-live region. How to regulate all that I don't know. However, it is regulated by the state in CA.

I don't think 6-pack Johnny is gonna wise up until he realizes that his $20 bill isn't getting him as much. They can try to blame Biden but he won't be president. Most people aren't very scientific.

Trump will be President, and somehow the GOP won control of just about everything. And in MAGA land the Democrats will still be blamed for everything bad about to happen the next 4 years. Will the Democrats have any power anywhere? While I think it's idiotic, I understand the mindset of a lot of Americans who wouldn't vote for a female, and a minority one at that. But the Republicans dominated the entire elections. That tells me Kamala wasn't the problem. I really expect her to win and the GOP to get slaughtered across the board. And they somehow cleaned house.

I don't think Johnny MAGA will say shit publically, I remember during the peak of COVID when the country was basically shut down, the MAGAs online were praising what a great president Trump was and how he was doing a better job than Obama. I remember reading a comment about that shit while I was camped out in a looooong ass line at Ralphs waiting on the delivery truck in HOPES it had TP and there would be enough for me to get 1 pack.

Truck showed up, no TP. I wasted 3 hours lol. MAGAs never complained though, it's like they weren't living in the same country as me.

The one total naked truth about Trumpers is that like Trump, they will never blame themselves for the problems they and Trump make/made for themselves and they will always have conveniently prepared scapegoats on hand from the liberal side to point fingers at. Such is the advantages of living in a made up world, where anyone and anything can be twisted and corrupted to suit their triggered needs and emotions.

Facts that pin them against the wall and stare them in the face simply pisses them off and sets off a knee jerk reaction to fight back and get even for the guilt being levied at them because in their minds being wrong is no reason to change their minds yet it's every reason to morph their lack of remorse into hate, fear and loathing.

edit - And while I'm at it, allow me to pick a fight with those many reporters who interview Trump supporters and refuse to bring up Trump's criminal record and those many other selfish acts of malfeasance in response to those interviewees spewing forth every hoax reason why they feel Trump is the "better choice" to lead the nation while being demure and evasive as to the real reasons they conceal in their gut why they wanted Trump over Harris.

Thing is inflation is like a slowly progressing disease that depletes your health. For a few months people may blame whatever for their problems but eventually they morph. It doesn't happen all at once. It happens slowly. Polls will show it. Inflation doesn't resolve quickly. Especially when conditions don't allow it to resolve. And this won't just be nationally, it will be worldwide and no way to avoid it. Some may blame Democrats, but deep down everyone will know better.

I wonder if Trump lost his 2020 bid for similar reasons, allowing for his incompetent handling of the national crisis we suffered through of which he bungled at every turn.

Thinking buying a laptop might not be a bad idea about now.

I'm planning on building a new PC earlier than I was originally planning, if only 9800X3D's were available anywhere...

Bought my wife a new one this week. I might buy a couple more lower end units to replace some 5+ year old laptops too. Maybe something with a 4050 or 4060 in them.

Even if the tariffs end quickly, the ripple effect will cause chaos for quite some time.

I’m asking for an ASUS Tuf A14 (AMD AI9 HTX 370 / 4060) for Christmas. While it’s technically a gaming laptop it’s really more of a thin and light (3.2lbs - not entirely covered in RGB LEDS, gets 10+ hours of battery life)

Should be good for some CAD work, light gaming and home/office stuff.

I don’t really have a laptop of my own. I’ve been making do with sharing the desktop with my wife, my work laptop, or using my kids 6 year old XPS laptops (recently replaced them with news ones for college)

Are you going to bring it to work with you? After all, everyone should be using gaming laptops in a professional setting, lol.

Nope. I can’t even connect my personal phone to my work laptop to charge it let alone connect a personal laptop to our work network.

So just for home use. I do some 3D printing at home and I either have to be at my Threadripper workstation or use my daughters old 8GB Dell XPS 13 which while it can run Fusion 360 is painful to use.

My college age kids both have 1-2 year old 15in HP/Dell laptops with 8 core Intel chips and 3050ti/4060s for college (engineering). So why can’t Dad have a decent laptop? Last time I bought one for myself was 2011.

I also wanted to avoid Intel 13/14 series chips and their new series isn’t all that great so the A14 looked pretty good with the new AMD CPUs.

Thanks. Missed that thread. Work provides all the hardware they intend for us to use. Specifically because we have to access ITAR or restricted contractor data.

We can’t even have work emails on our personal phones anymore without installing MDM software that allows them to wipe our phones remotely. So I stopped checking emails after hours for a number of years.

My current position now comes with a work phone so I carry two iPhones now. It’s nice in that I can check my next days schedule in the evening without having to fire up the work laptop and VPN in just to update Outlook.

Been hoping I can get my Lenovo Thinkpad P1Gen1 and P1Gen3 laptops LE Audio compliant but it may not be possible even with the couple of WIFI/Bluetooth cards I just received (haven't installed them yet). I think the audio codec of the machines just won't allow it. Dongles might do the trick. If not, a new laptop might be on the horizon for me. Before Jan. 20! ;) Or sooner actually, the supply/demand curves are morphing already, eh?
