Farmers will have trouble finding workers willing to do the labor. I don't live in a farming town, but we have a stupid amount of Orange groves. Any person can walk off the street and instantly get a job picking oranges here. White people refuse to do this work, I know unemployed ones who I tell them "you can go pick oranges" they say "fuck that" It's 99% illegals, and they'll get deported if Trump has his way. Without the illegals I have no clue how these oranges will get picked. And I think to this day, Riverside's one of the biggest sources for Oranges in the entire US.

If the orange groves out here have to start paying white people $20 an hour to pick them, OJ will be out of most peoples price range.
Easy peasy, incarcerate more people, then prison labor makes up the difference.

Farmers make up a tiny portion of the "rural" population but are also the most heavily subsidized population in the US. They won't get hurt.

The majority of rural folks are aren't farmers and are going to get bit by higher prices.

The way farmers might get hit is if there are retaliatory tariffs on US agricultural exports. That in turn could cause a general recession either in those rural areas specifically, or even globally, that will hurt everyone else.

[Edit] There's also this

LOL they probably couldn't use inmates to pick oranges. I think a big condition of the labor they do is the warden needs to be able to see them at all times. It would be impossible to keep an eye on a bunch of dudes in orange jump suits in massive orange groves. But when the illegals get deported I don't think they'll start paying livable wages to white people to pick oranges so maybe it will become prisoners.

Well, things are going swell and he’s not even in office yet. 25% tariffs to Mexico and Canada? I’ll say it again… you guys are fucked.
It appears Trump forgot about his NAFTA 2.0 trade agreement that he put in place his first term. Not a suprise that he will go back on his own trade agreement, which is going to open up a bigger can of worms.

Americans hate price increases for any reason and are most certainly not willing to pay more for American made products. China is only the third largest US trade partner behind Mexico and Canada.

Tariffs will solve all problems according to him. High prices? Tarrifs. Unemployment? Tarrifs. Lung cancer? Tarrifs.

They generally fail to do anything but raise prices and invite retaliation that is damaging to currently viable businesses.
I personally will pay more for American made when possible.
But the poors that think they are middles class will not work them there illegal's jobs.
More of them should have showed up to vote then. Sucks for those who did. The country as a whole needs to learn a hard lesson. Easy times weak men etc etc that idiots like to throw out there without realizing they are the weak men who voted for an authoritarian because of some weak economic complaints during one of the most prosperous times in the history of civilization.
I am a 51 yr old who will climb poles with hooks on to get the upload speed of the internet where it should be. Like tomorrow I might add.
Well given that they appear to want to gut the ACA that is probably going to happen!
Dropped my employer HC that went up 10% to 400 BI-WEEKLY, to an ACA plan that is maybe 90 a month. I have already broke 10k on my portion of the employer health care share. Which does not count towards a deductible.
*raises his hand*

Yep, we are finishing a kitchen remodel next year that includes a new microwave, range hood, oven, and cooking surface. I've already noticed the prices on my wife's preferred appliances have increased!

We're gonna go purchase these things now and leave em in my garage until we do the remodel. Sucks if there's an issue with the appliance when we finally get around to installing them and turning them on.
I have purchased all of the new 9800x3d rig ahead of time. I just need 1 more 4TB M.2 before i bend the hardline tubing to make the swap.

They are already raising prices in anticipation of the Tariffs. Meaning not only tech companies.

Yup how could he considered a great deal maker when everyone knows he goes back on his own words.

I don’t think they would pick them even for $20/hr. If the average American was willing to get their hands dirty there wouldn’t be any shortage of welders, plumbers, HVAC techs, auto techs, etc. Those jobs can pay six figures if you’re certified.

Unless we hit a Great depression level economic collapse the oranges would probably just rot on the tree until somebody gets a fleet of humanoid robots powered by AI out there

Yeah, that's the real cost of goods when you don't have cheap labor subsidizing the cost.
Remember, minimum wage, if it has kept pace with inflation, would be like $24/hr today.

While I agree, the difference with the jobs you mentioned is they require actual skill. People can learn the trade if they really wanted to. Donald Trump and his entire cult are technically smart enough to pick oranges. I worked 1 day doing it to see what it was like. It SUCKED, climbing up and down a ladder all day left me struggling to walk for a few days. But any idiot could do it.

So when the illegals are gone we're gonna be fucked when it comes to oranges, I don't think people really understand how everything will change. A 5LB bag of oranges up the street is $6. When we lose the illegals a 5lb bag will cost as much as meat. That's assuming we can even buy them as they'll have to figure out a way to pick them with every legal person refusing. Same thing for all the Strawberry patches out here.

Home Health Aides can make $21 here in NY but companies are trying to reneg and knock it back down to $18.

Alot of meat is cut by migrants now already.
You don't think Walmart, Dollar General Market, I have never been in a Whole Foods. It is all pre cut, people just put it out and rotate it on the shelves. It was cut at the processing plant. Good seal on the package to keep the Nitrogen inside to keep the Bloom Effect. Which is basically when meat is cut fresh it is dark, oxygen hits it and it blooms to the pretty red color. Then it used to be wrapped by a person whose job it was to just wrap and price label and stock it on the shelves.

If you don't see an actual person cutting the meat, like a window with a table and band saw, it is probably prepackaged.
Even then the boxes come in bulk as a Chuck Shoulder, a Round, a loin, and a Rib section. Experience is needed to cut a bone in sirloin at the right angle to make that bone the smallest.

Well, we're in luck. One of the sycophants in Trumps cabinet is looking to build humanoid robots. Imagine the odds.

You are not looking at the total plan.
  • Step one, tank the economy so that unemployment doubles or triples.
  • Step two, eliminate social safety nets, unemployment benefits, SNAP, etc.
  • Step three, deport all the brown farmworkers
  • Step four, now desperate white people will pick the oranges for even less than the brown people did.
  • Step five, give tax cuts to the now richer mega farm conglomerates.

No it isn't a matter of picking one. ;)
Do just enough to keep them hanging on.
Isnt there some truth to that?
The thing that makes R a pathetic choice for the common folk is donor money right? Doing the bids of big corps more so than the people.
While democrats only take half the big donor money as the republicans do ITS STILL FCKING HALF.
Half as corrupt is still corrupt.
