So honest question since it's been 8 years since Obama was president.. despite all your hate for him.. do you think ACA or "Obamacare" as it's called.. was it good for you or bad for you and your family?

First I don't hate Obama. I don't like his politics, but I don't hate him.

Obama Care (ACA) did not effect me and my family at all as far as I know.

Do you live in some kind of alternate universe where the Democrats did not regularly expend giant amounts of political capital to advance their policies (healthcare, climate, infrastructure, etc)?

To what end.

Healthcare in the US is too expensive and not getting better.
The climate is still doing its thing as It always has.
The infrastucture is still crumbling.

Oh you're gonna hear a lot about "block grants" very soon.

That is Medicaid Block Grants. I don't receive Medicaid. I get the Medicare Plans A and B I paid for for 50 years working and Tricare for Life under my Military retirement contract.

Ahh I thought you had personal run ins with and had to flee from the "Obamacare death panels"

To see continued progress requires not putting the people who do nothing but try to tear it all down back into office every couple years and pressing them to make constructive policy changes. Since all they care about is tax cuts it's kinda hard to solve every single problem the country faces in the brief windows where Dems actually control the government.

Do any of you have pre-existing conditions?

No preexisting issues except being old...

Well I do have arthritis and had both knees replaced, Cataracts and had them replaced. Knees were covered 100% and the cataracts cost me about 2,500 per eye as I had my vision also corrected as an added cost.

Let's just remember the ACA was basically a GOP idea the Democrats co-opted and then the Republicans acted like it was the second coming of 1917 and lost their shit.

That is something dems should have never done because if you adopt the right's position.. you basically make them run to an even crazier right position.

Funny you mention that, health care costs in the US have actually plateaued since the ACA was enacted.

The law succeeded at exactly what it was trying to do but because it was so successful nobody talks about it anymore.

And the number of uninsured people is at a record low also.

Can't say - I would imagine it's hugely variable depending on region and income-bracket.

I just have a personal gripe about the crap quality of much UK infrastructure, the poor quality of home insulation and plumbing being two of the main gripes.

So many things it seems as if our ancestors failed to engage in any forward-planning and went for the cheapest short-term option.
My German wife has quite a few gripes about the quality of UK construction, but at least we can't put a fist through a wall 🙂

I personally think it's completely barmy that all new UK houses don't have solar panels.

That's true however the plan for Medicare is to boot people off wherever possible and into private plans.

Okay.
Having them hasn't effected my medical coverage or cost in any way.

The term Pre-Existing has to be in relation to something like an event.

Pre-Existing with respect to what?

It hasn't affected your coverage because the ACA prevents that.

If that goes away, whatever plan you have afterwards will absolutely call it "pre-existing" and you'll be shit out of luck.

That's the point.

The reason this got put in was because guess what insurance companies would say if you had to switch carriers for any reason.

I switched between my employer medical plan to Medicare / Tricare for Life with no issues. One Knee was covered by my Employer and the other by Medicare. I never paid a dime for either.

Of course he doesn't actually know things about what the ACA has done for people, or what a pre-existing condition is. Probably doesn't know about lifetime limits either.
