Well, I had already spent about a half hour of JUST running around before I posted here, then it took another 20 minutes for me to find the blocks. I tried shooting them first, then I noticed the "!" and clicked the action button. The train went away, but the wrong direction. COrrected for the second.

Was a cool sequence but I think it should have been more obvious what to do to get it started. I knew exactly what was going to happen when I saw the explosive train cars sitting there, just didn't figure out how to move them for a long time.

All detail to high, but no additional options (AA, Triple Buffering, etc.).

It runs fine driving through town. And during small firefights it is also fine. But during fights with a lot of people, or when there is fire (molitov cocktail, etc.), I get major slowdown. Can't barely fire anything. Have to do one bullet at a time with the tommy gun.

I'm running 1280x1024 w/2xaa. I experience basically no slowdown. Occasionly during heavy night firefights the fps drops a little, but its definately playable.

Mafia is MUCH betta than GTA3....

As GTA was not very realistic ie u could go through a RED light on GTA right in from of a Cop n he wouldnt do shit

But in Mafia u can get done for SPEEDING so it is much more risky 2 just boot it around (not that the cars are fast or nethink)

if u liked GTA3 you will LOVE Mafia

I didn't think the game was that long. Probably around the length of Max Payne. It can be considerably shorter if you figure out what to do in 15-08 very quickly. You also shorten the game a lot (or not much, depending on your driving skillz) if you don't do the Lucas Bertone optional missions. The only catch is that you lose the chance to get some really fast cars. The last two missions may give some people fits if they don't follow directions well.

If you don't run into the glitch I had at the end of 17-04, you also shorten the game by an hour. For some odd reason, my dude wouldn't fit through the only exit to the level. Had to reload and play the previous section again. Go figure. I heard about the multiplayer patch as well, but I'll be damned if I know how they'll implement that into the game.

Keep playing. You get to drive a REALLY fast car in Mission 6. But you won't get another really fast one again until another few missions.

I love these guys that say "it isn't that long, I beat it in 2 hours". I have been playing this game for about 20 hours, and I consider myself an above average gamer. Max Payne was way shorter than this game. How many cheats are you using to get done so fast?? I am finishing up the cigar stealing level right now. Figure I'll have beat the game here in a couple of hours. 23-25 hours is a pretty good game compared to most of the short ones out lately!!

After you are done with Mafia you can play in Freeride mode or Extreme Freeride mode, so that adds some replayability to the game. I just wish I could get it running better. Might be time for a new CPU and some DDR ram.

hmmmm 3 discs for only 25 hours. Thats a ton. But oh well. Its towards the WHOLE map of the game so I guess tahts ok.

I wish though that (and I haven't played through it all yet so I don't know for sure) but that it had more optional stuff like GTA3.

Oh well so far I'm having a blast with it.

(guess I really should play it all the way through before making comments like that)

I just got pulled over for my first ticket of running a red light by a foot police man. He was yelling at me to stop so I stopped right in the middle of a busy intersection. He was standing behind my car telling me to get out and then all of a sudden a trolly went by and ran him over. LOL No more ticket I just drove off

LOL! I love this game.

Another funny instance that happened to me.

A side mission by Lucas. You are supposed to dispose of a car wanted by the police off the side of the cliffs by the lighthouse. I didn't (and still don't) know how to get it off the cliffs. (anyone know how?). I tried everything. Putting it on a slope to see if it would roll off, getting it as close as I dared and seeing if it would give me an option to push. No go.

Well, as I was giving up hope, the police spotted me from the road. They come barreling over to me at high speeds, HIT the car, and send it flying over the cliff. Problem solved

Get a gamepad. Seriously, I don't know because the last racing game I played with a keyboard was Test Drive on my Tandy 1000. If you get really stuck, go to www.3dap.com/mafia/ and download the savegame for the first part after the race. You miss a cutscene that'll make sense later in the game though.
