it never defaulted to the cpu for me. I got 24 fps with physx on the gpu and 16 fps when forcing it to run on the cpu from day one. also its weird that I get 50fps at 1920x1080 with a gtx260 and that's all they got at just 1680x1050 with the gtx460.

EDIT: oops I did not have AA on when I got 50fps so I will need to re run it. yeah I got 51 fps with AA off at 1920 and 34 fps with it on. at 1680x1050 I got 38 fps with AA on. that crappy in game AA sure does take a toll on my gtx260 and is not worth using.

Those framerates seem low maybe?

I was getting an avg of around 60(stock) to 66(overclocked) with a 5850, everything turned up and AA on but no PhysX at 1920x1200...maybe AA turned itself off for my benchmarks?

EDIT: having some trouble with the benchmark (it seems to keep minimising itself) but at one stage got it working and my AA must have been off previously, was getting in the low 50's avg fps with an overclocked 5850 (950/1225), which is in line with their 5870 score...

I don't want to benchmark that game again, it messes up my gamma or something. If I remember correctly I was getting around 50FPS with no AA.

after you exit the game just hit control alt delete and then click cancel and it will go back to normal.

Looks like what most people have been saying with the benchmark.

Piss poor performance with physx on. What a joke, a game that has the visuals of a console port, performs like a total pig when you add some extra rock chunks on the ground.

Such a cheap grab to try and get people to buy more of their product.

It's the NPC clothing physX that kills framerates. Delete their clothes physX and it runs great. And you still have the particles, burnouts etc. I can force 8xq AA from the drivers as well and keep the frame rate above 60.

Does that fix also work for CPU physx?

Yeah, I posted the results in the other Mafia 2 benchmark thread, here is the resume and results:

I used that trick of the Cloth folder renaming/deleting and I found a nice boost in performance.

Before trying the mod, everything maxed plus APEX PhysX at med:

Min: 13.0
Max: 62.5
Ave: 25.3

After the mod, using the same settings plus APEX PhysX at med:

Min: 15.6
Max: 111.1
Ave: 46.5

those results are not on the cpu though and isnt that what he was asking about?

What's the game's soundtrack like? I loved the original game's theme song. Wish I had extracted the soundtrack somehow.

Does my sig shows that I own an nVidia card? It's purely running on the CPU, the max fps are high thanks to the fix and the fact I own a CF setup. He asked if that trick worked on CPU PhysX in Mafia 2, unless if he's offtopic and its referring to PhysX on CPU in general.

yeah my bad. I had just looked at your results and knew I had not seen anybody get better than 17-18 fps running high physx on their cpu even with i7. so I guess running just medium must help more than I thought it would on the cpu since you got 25 fps.

APEX in high runs slow, its pretty much unplayable (Around 16fps average), and no matter if it's an i7, the results won't change that much, CPU PhysX in this game isn't multi threaded and isn't optimized (crippled). The difference between medium and high doesn't worth the performance impact plus in medium looks far more natural and realistic, in high looks like a confetti party with so much debris in the explosions, I think it's overdone.
