Mafia and catalysts...

Okay, so I got mafia, played it on win98 on my old radeon8500 drivers til i beat it... loved every minutes of it.
Now I just installed XP, got all the new drivers, and reinstalled mafia for some fun...
But all the text is screwed up, and I can't even see the names of my save games, just the pictures. I checked for the newest drivers, and they say they fix this issue... BUT THEY DON'T! anyone know what i can do? i am at a loss, and i really like this game!
 
Sounds like the driver settings for some reason force anti-aliasing, which tends to screw up text.
Check the ATI control panel.
 
I don't think this is the problem, I have tried changing every setting, and only once fixed the problem by turning every setting all the way down... Of course, when I repeasted this experiment, I couldn't get it to work again, so I suppose it was just some sort of a fluke...
I really wish this game would work though! Anyone else have any tips?
 
I have tried turning T&L off in the settings, and this does no good...
Is there a driver setting that turns this off? Or a command line setting? or something??? Please help!
 
I'm sure an ATI owner can help you out.
The game was beautiful on my XP machines with Geforce 3 and 4.
