What does "pushing the boundary of sexual imagery" have to do with anything? Being a sex symbol means you can't help people?

There's nothing wrong with a sex symbol helping others, but this is late in her lifetime when she knows she can't maintain her status quo. She spent most of her energy on her career while younger. Nothing wrong with that, but you can't compare that to the adversity that Gandhi went through. The problem is that I believe this is more for a publicity stunt than anything.

If you want a good example of a sex symbol who legitimately believe in helping the needy look to Angelina Jolie (already mentioned in this thread). She helped third world kids while at the same time maintaining her career as a sultry actress.

In the declining years of her career she's just craving more attention. I have no problem with her wanting to do good, just shut your mouth and do it, whether anyone notices or not.

BINGO.

She likes attention and is a little self-agrandizing, but overall she wants to make a difference in the world.

I mean, who doesn't want to be a little like Gandhi? The guy was a good example of a person who practiced what he preached. An idealist that by sheer will power was able to help lead a nation into its own. It would have helped him to be more pragmatic, but over all the guy led a great life that was based on the teaching of the Sermon on the Mount. (Even though he was totally turned off of Christianity by Christians <sigh> :( ) Of course the guy had his weird quirks about himself and his life, but no one could fault the guy for not having strong convictions in what he believed. I personally admire the guy too.

Because she's a rich hypocrite. Maybe if she walked her talk...

"We all need to be Jesus," she said.

This is what Jesus said (Matthew 19:16-22):

Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"
"Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."
"Which ones?" the man inquired.
Jesus replied, " 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,' and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'"
"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

hahahaha

if by "good" you mean being a racist and pedophile!! ahahah

Gandhi wasn't all of what your history books told you he was...
Are you referring to how Gandhi was supposed to have taken numerous just-flowered girl children and had sex with them at their parents' urging? I've read that once and never again since - would love to find it in a reputable source again.

i did a class project on Gandhi during one of my high school years. I read his Anthology, and a biography. I dont recall reading anything that said he was a racist, or that he was a pedophile. Unless you're talking about the young age of his wife (15 IIRC) when he wed her, but that was the norm in India back in those days. He was an adulterer though

exactly what I was thinking. Gandhi used to make his own clothes (weave his own fabric) and walk bare feet in protest of the British rule over India (garment industry was British controlled). He didnt have a single materialistic posession in his later years.

Unless Madonna gives away her millions and starts performing for her fans for free, and lives a humble, meager life of poverty, she will never be like Gandhi.

I like Madonna. I think she's a great entertainer, but she will never be like Gandhi or MLK.
