when are the ameicans going to figure out microcenter is not worldwide, hell its not even everywhere in the US either.

I really don't understand the point of this post. We all talk prices in USD's or recast our national currencies into comparable USD pricing for the sake of discussion.

And we make comparisons to bundles that are regional to be sure, but everyone gets the fact we are contributing our real-life experiences (which can't be helped but to be shaped by the regionality of our individual geographical locale) simply to offer up something that is tangible and can be spoken to.

There's no microcenter where I live, and yet I still find a way to not hold it against those members who do have one local and are kind enough to share with me the sorts of deals they are seeing at MC.

If I weren't interested in that sort of "larger than just me and my hometown" insight into how things are looking elsewhere on the planet then I probably would avoid an online forum community like this one which is guaranteed to have representation from all corners of the globe.

If you are going to go down the road you are heading down with your post above the you may as well chastise members for posting in English even though that is not the native language everywhere in the world. (see how silly it can get?)

And when are the non-Americans going to realize that Americans CAN get Microcenter deals and not generalize that AMD boards can't be had for cheaper than Intel boards?

You're the one generalizing, not me. I never said you could get a deal like that easily. I only said it can be done to demonstrate that your statement that Intel boards aren't more than similar AMD boards is not true in all cases.

I was just trying to say most members on this board can not take advantage of the microcenter deals, because they dont ship them out to you. Thats like saying i can get a 2500k for $100, but i work at intel, well thats great for you it doesnt effect most of the board.

Seriously though, the 32nm Intel CPUs overclock pretty well. This includes all Sandy Bridge (2500K/2600K only) and Clarkdale (all socket 1156 dual cores, easy BCLK overclocking). This is probably why overclocking is now locked except on certain, more expensive CPUs. There's obviously just too much headroom in these CPUs!

We could argue the case of easy overclocking all the way back to 45nm and even 65nm Core 2 based chips.

Heck, I had an E2140 Pentium (65nm) that was capable of a 100% overclock (going from 1.6GHz to 3.2GHz)

I think Intel is finally locking chips down now not because these newer ones have even more headroom than chips of the past, but more because there's been an unfortunate buildup of lack of competition from AMD. (of which we could even argue that Intel is holding back stock clock rates and thus giving the illusion of greater headroom because of that same slack in competition)

I wish that a Microcenter was near me, think i would be a lot poorer if there was one. There isn't one near me(five hours to Houston) so sometimes it will irk me when poeple post/talk about Microcenter deals. Although I did an E6700(internet order shipped) from them which was a great deal at the time. Soon after that they quit shipping and in store only the good deals. Thanks to Newegg I keep my Preferred Account active almost year round.

That's just sour grapes IMHO. Your analogy doesn't work either because anyone can walk into a MC and get the deal, provided they are in-stock. I am sorry you don't live by a MC, but a decent number of people do. For literally YEARS, the i7-920 or i7-930 was <$200. Even if you couldn't walk into a MC, that savings was available in many other places. eBay sold these for between 200-250 because so many people got them from MC.

I wish I had a Fry's electronics by me too, but you know what, there isn't one. I don't cry about, I move on. 🙂

I can get a free board with the purchase of a Phenom II X2 that can unlock it. If you want to spend the money for more features than those boards, then you should be getting a Sandy Bridge anyways.

That free board is worth exactly what you will pay for for it - financially at least. How you may pay for it in other ways actually could make it a bad value.

The Biostar A770E3 isn't half bad and I'd recommend it to the people who want to get "value." As for me, I went with the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO / USB3 AM3 890GX because I wanted high FSB headroom and now I get the option of being able to drop a Zambezi in there =P

My upgrades go piecemeal to allow for future growth and flexibility. Very rarely do I build from the ground up - large expenses gives me heartburn. Last upgrade, my processor was the best my MoBo could handle, so I upgraded my MoBo (and RAM, as it was necessary). Next upgrade will be the CPU to the max the MoBo can handle.

Spreads out the cost of upgrading, but it tends to lock me into a brand. Doesn't matter much, as I don't play any hyper-intensive games right now. Maybe in the future I'll care and build from the ground up, but my situation does not demand it. I'm not loyal to a brand, I'm loyal to bang for my buck - with the amount of bang I care about is the amount I'll need for the next 2-ish years.

Just an update. Switched the CoolerMaster GX650W PSU downline to an AMD machine and moved the Antec TPII 750W PSU into the new rig AND moved my second Radeon 5850 into the new rig to run crossfire. Double WOW. The 2500K is purring along at 4400 MHZ. The Power of this SB chip after coming from the AMD 965BE (which I love, BTW) is truly amazing. The 2500K is smooth but with the Brute force behind it. Intel did a great job.

I hope AMD stays close with BullDozer. We shall see.
